Kia ora - ngā mihi mahana ki a tātou katoa (Hello, and warm greetings to all)! I hail from the two iwi Māori (Māori peoples) of Ngāti Kuri and Te Rarawa, whose traditional territories are located in the far north of the north Island of Aotearoa, New Zealand. I live in a small rural community with my husband, and have one teenage son.

I come from a strong legal and policy background, having (among other things) worked in the New Zealand Government sector, the private law sector, and as a Negotiator for one of my iwi’s historical Treaty claims settlement negotiations with the New Zealand Government (a settlement which was finally legislated in 2015).

I have over 15 years’ strategic governance skills and experience including trustee positions with both my iwi councils, our local primary school and local high school (Kaitaia college – a position I currently hold).

I am a committed human rights and environmental advocate, having campaigned locally and nationally on various matters, and represented my iwi for over a decade internationally at (among other forums) the United Nations – all areas which I continue to passionately participate in.

I am extremely enthusiastic about education – both for our youth and as a life-long pursuit. Such is critical to nurture tomorrow’s citizens who must be equipped not only to lead rewarding personal lives, but to make their meaningful contribution to realize and maintain a harmonious and thriving society. This is increasingly important in an Age of highly complex and converging environmental, social, cultural, economic and political challenges that call upon us all to think globally but act locally.

I have strong spiritual values, shaped in large part by my Māori peoples’ traditional knowledge. I believe Life is about more than simply getting a job, consuming stuff and being blindly obedient to authority. Everyone needs the freedom (tempered with compassionate, wise guidance) to think independently, test others’ opinions, develop their distinctive interests, passions, gifts and talents, find one’s place in the world and express their Life purpose. Mine is simply to be in powerful service to the highest good in the world.

I hope you find as much value in my humble blog offerings as I do in sharing them!
