I Stopped Trading Away My Life For Money

by Rowena Bennett Relationships, Self Improvement, Kids and Teens
Our modern way of working just doesn't sit well with me.  I found it difficult to articulate why until I came across an article from Steve Biddulph - one of the worlds best known parent educators - earlier this year.  This article clearly articulated a key reason for me wanting to change my life.   "We are induced to work long hours without respite for parenthood, or anything like a natural rythm in our days." That is such a powerful statement for me.  ...

It's the small things that make a difference

by Rowena Bennett Business, Relationships
Something occured to me today which showed me me just how much of a difference my digital business has made to my life. I am like so many people. I don't like going to doctors or doctor related appointments, or any sort of appointment for that matter - because I don't like being made to wait while they mismanage their time.  I understand that emergencies happen, but there are ways to manage such emergencies, like contacting clients and letting them know ...

Be your own best friend - stop negative thoughts

by Rowena Bennett Home Based Business, Self Improvement
At some point I began to wonder why I treat myself so badly - internally.  If I sat down and documented the types of negativity that I used to regale myself with on a daily basis I would be appalled at myself.  I realised that I would never say such statements to anyone of my friends and family - I began to question why I said such statements to myself. Of course I turned to Dr Google.  Dr Google began to ...

Resilience is defined as "the capcity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness." by Dictionary.com.  Dictionary.com provides synonyms for resilience to be "flexibility, pliancy, recoil and snap".  This leans towards the ability to recover from ...

Making my bed, and lying in it...

by Rowena Bennett Business, Self Improvement
Mindfulness is a fabulous practice for our modern world. I am the style of person who flies through life - sometimes missing the detail.  I reach the end of an experience, or event and look back to realise that I missed the richness of the detail in the experience or event.  I believe the richness of life lies in the detail.  Savouring the detail is where we find the connections to others that we are missing in the modern world.  Being ...

Addicted to Melodrama

by Rowena Bennett Home Based Business, Self Improvement
Hey!  Well, I don't think I am particularly melodramatic - though like all of us I do have tendencies to be so in certain situations.    I have been experiencing a technical hiccup with my business which has kept me busy problem solving for the past three days.  This has thrown up many emotions from which I choose to take the learnings.  The learnings I found in a Deepak Chopra meditation -  I'll attach it for you at the end of ...

A lovely boss, but not a boss that I want.

by Rowena Bennett Business, Internet and Businesses Online, Finance
Hello.  And today I am lying in bed being very sick.  Thankfully I have been able to see a Doctor who has given me strong antibiotics and I am starting to feel better already. But, here's the thing.  My biggest concern when I realised that I would be off work for the next couple of days is - what will my boss think?  How quickly can I get back to work?  Rather than - what do I need to do to ...

Embrace Perturbation

by Rowena Bennett Business, Home Based Business, Internet and Businesses Online
An event occurred - a PETURBATION - and I've achieved that change I've been looking for and I'm on a roll.  I learnt that it is discomfort - a perturnation - that triggers the change and that change rippled through my life because I accepted the fear and let it happen.   "Perturbation - a deviation of a system, moving object or process from it's normal state or path, caused by an outside influence." (source: Google) My life was a system running on ...
