Wayne Gretzky Said It
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. - Wayne Gretzky
Seems intuitive enough, but it's an incredibly important distinction to make about the fear of failure. If we aren't willing to completely leave our comfort zones and take action towards our desired outcomes, opening ourselves up to the risk of failure, then we will have to settle for what is. When we do put ourselves along a different path, all sorts of feelings, narratives, and self defeating unconscious habit patterns will arise, telling us why we shouldn't, wouldn't, or can't try something new.
Shakespeare Said It
Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt. - Shakespeare
Again we can see this motif of inaction leading to fear. What's less comfortable: the feeling of accepting what is, or the feeling of growth? We have to make a decision in our lives about which one we are willing to tolerate, and we should do this regularly. Without checking in with ourselves and listening to our intuition, we're wide open to just ignoring clear signs and compounding the negative affects of heading down the wrong path.
