Why Having Fun Is Good For Your Body And Mind

I have decided to designate my Friday blogs as FUN FRIDAY! Fun is good for your body and mind. Let's all get that Friday feeling.
I have my grandsons on a Friday which i am so thankful for. My fun with my grandsons probably involves going to the park, or Rhymetime classes or simply painting hand prints and getting very messy.
These are simple pleasures that my grandsons find delightful, and once I let my inner child play, I have so much fun myself. When I made the decision to have my grandsons on a Friday, to help my daughter out, I thought that I would just be a care taker and giver, I didn't realise just how much I would be receiving for myself. They have so much energy and passion for doing the things we do, surely we should all take our lead from them and enjoy life.
My Fun Friday blogs are going to be about FUN whether its happening today, twenty years ago or forty years in the future. It's the fun bits that keep us going and striving for success so that we may do these things. It's not all about succeeding financially to have fun, as in the world travel or the latest gadgets, but that knowledge that wherever you are, whoever you are with, you know you can still derive pleasure. That is what it's all about. That is what inner self confidence does for us. When it all comes together, the financial stuff follows you as if by magic.
Laugher
It is said that laughter is the best medicine. and can actually improve our health. The benefits include:
- Relieves physical tension in body.
- Boosts the immune system - it decreases stress homones and increases immune cells which helps to improve resistance to disease.
- Triggers the realease of endorphins, the natural feel good chemicals.
- Heart protection - Increases blood flow which helps in preventing heart attacks and strokes.
- Burns calories - Laughing for about 10-15 minutes a day burns up 40 calories (or a fun size chocolate)
- Live longer - Studies have shown that people with a strong sense of humour tended to live longer than tthose that didn't laugh so much.
The Crickets
Here is a funny thing that happened and it still makes me laugh everytime I think about it.
I do lots of visualizations and meditations, and I listen via my E-reader at night. The latest one I'm listening to is a subliminal "stop procrastinating" one that I listen to before I go to sleep. I normally listen to it with my headphones on, but it was too hot one night so I just listened without headphones and the sound filled the room. Then my husband came in the room;
Husband: Can you hear the crickets outside?
Me: It's the subliminal messages
Husband: (sounding confused) what do you mean? Oh do you mean the waves from the microwaves and mobile phones?
Me: (sounding confused back) no it's subliminal messages. Messages that are positive re-enforcements
Husband: But it is crickets isn't it?
Me: No it's the man that made it to sound like crickets
Husband: (Now I can hear the panic in his voice) What man? Do you mean God? Are you ok?
Me: God??? Are YOU ok? (I was worried that he wasn't right)
Husband: I'm just checking you're ok, you have been under a lot of stress lately.
Then it dawned on me! He thought I was having a nervous break down and he was trying to use kid gloves on how to handle this. He thought I was `losing it` and I thought he was getting truly worried about the "vibes" out there.
I roared with laughter. I find myself every so often thinking about it and I giggle to myself.
If you laugh together - you love together. That's why having fun is good for your body and mind.
Keep having fun.
