For the topic of miracles, I have chosen an imaginary depiction of the atom. What greater evidence could there be for miracles than the invisible subatomic world, the substratum for our supposed material reality.

The topic of miracles is both fascinating and challenging since it goes contrary to our secular Western culture that tends to dismiss anything that claims to transcend materialist presuppositions. The orientation is: I'll believe it when I see it, rather than I will see it when I believe it.'

The truth is, one will never be able to see what they don't believe unless they are open to witnessing it. Even if they observe something that doesn't fit, they will find a way to dismiss it such that their preconception of the universe is not compromised. (See below the story of the levitating yogi in Rome).

After all, skeptics say, magicians create illusions all the time so why should this be any different. But what happens when things happen in uncontrived circumstances where an accident is inexplicably diverted, or a person' shows up at a crtical moment and then seemingly disappears into the aether with no witnesses of them having been there. In being open to what other have to say, there are just to many stories like this where strange things happens to not be real life experiences. But if I, or anyone else, already determined such occurrences could not happen, then that would be my reality.

Before we look closer into the transcendent nature of miracles and what might be going on, I would like to ask if there is anyone reading this who wishes to contribute a special story about what you may have been experienced as a miracle. If so, I'd be grateful if you emailed me at: nmeyers@shaw.ca

I will not include your name unless you request that I do so. I think many in this world would be interested in hearing your story and those of others, otherwise they would never be known. To that end, I hope to post a blog with several accounts from those who believe they have witnessed a miracle.

From what I've heard from several sources over the years, there are many inspiring stories waiting to be told, but unfortunately, rarely disclosed because of fear of being ridiculed by the skeptics. I think things are rapidly changing these days and there is now greater openness to what's going on out there, but still no one wishes to risk being accused of delusion, especially after sharing a very special story in good faith. It's not just ordinary strangers that are feared, but often the derision of friends and relatives.

I find it ironic that skeptics are not just atheists and agonistics, but many among the religious are antagonistic to the possibility of the miraculous. Perhaps they feel resentful and inadequate for not having had such experiences in their lives too. Obviously, if miracles actually occurred in the world, they would be the first to know.

I understand this concern of being too 'out there' and so did Jesus when he said not to cast your perils before the swine since they will trample them and then attack you. (The exact KJV quote from Matthew 7:6 is: Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.)

I think, however, many reading this blog and post along with the Elysium's Passage series will be open and responsive, otherwise most wouldn’t be here. There may even many here who would like to share your story with others. I wouldn't doubt it.

I have chosen two dialogues from Book One, ELYSIUM'S PASSAGE: THE SUMMIT. The first is, from Chapter 12.

What we achieve inwardly will change outer reality

                                                                       Plutarch[1]

It may seem strange anyone as a spirit would want to do manual work since there's no reason to be looking for firewood when it can easily be manifested without any effort. In fact, much easier, since there was no problem with items such as food, drinks and lodging. Possibly they wanted to teach me whatever physical work I enjoy doing on the earth plane, I might continue to enjoy doing on higher planes, even when it seemed hard work. I remember how invigorating and fulfilling it was when I cut and split wood while camping in the mountains of Canada.

But I still can’t explain exactly how we were able to get the logs back up to the cabin, and so I won’t even try. I suppose it might have had something to do with a realignment of electromagnetic frequencies whereby lower octaves could subsist within higher radiant forms much like a denominator providing a common base for subsets of related integers.[2]

Though it may have seemed like a miracle at the time, practically everything I experienced in this realm seemed like a miracle. However in a higher conscious realm, there’s nothing supernatural about integrating natural frequencies of earth density by quickening them to resonate in a higher vibratory plane. Even in the world today, various advanced yogis are able to achieve such feats as levitation.

But of course, this understanding depends on how limited one’s definition is of what’s natural. If it means only what laws can be evidenced in the dimension of earth’s space and time, then what I witnessed wasn’t at all natural. And yet everything I experienced happened on earth, just as many miracle workers over the centuries have transmuted energy into higher catenations of form by accessing more refined natural laws with their conscious intention.

When I asked Mo to tell me a bit more about this, he said, 'this principle is how things also manifest on the earth plane, only more intermediately since creation is a process of thoughts impinging on unmanifested form held in abeyance in the Zero Point Field (ZPF).'[3]

I told him I didn’t have the slightest idea what that was supposed to mean.

'How could you? Eli said. 'Its a miracle, dammit!

Mo smiled and said, 'you need not figure it out. But understand that every atom, along with the whole invisible subatomic substratum of supposed material reality is nothing less that an eternal miracle.'

As we continued to work below, we carried on with our discussion about miracles since I was curious to hear more about their perspectives. Among other things, Mo said, ‘miracles are about accessing what is natural in the higher sphere to order to effect change on lower planes, such as on earth. In other words, what’s below, yields to what is above since the lower is always contained in what is higher, not the other way around.’

‘So is it a miracle for the body to heal itself? Often it seems that way when terminal cancer suddenly goes into remission without treatment or explanation. Would that be a violation of natural law or an example of a lower octave being quickened by a higher frequency that transcends and subsumes it? Furthermore, what happens when people, in faith, lay hands on the afflicted; is there something to that?’

‘Ask your afflicted body how it feels when Julianne lays her tender and soothing hands on it,’ Eli said, with a mischievous smile.

‘I certainly will, the first chance I get to lay my less than tender hands on her body,’ I said with a chuckle.

‘Good luck with that,’ Mo said, ‘but to help you understand what I’m saying; think of your hyper aerial skills as an example of a miracle. If you could still carry on with this after returning to London, it may be considered magical to some, while others would think it to be only an impressive performance. In any case, it would soon be dismissed and ignored after receiving a few facile rationalizations. After all, magicians perform all kinds of disappearance tricks, don’t they?

‘But on a transcendent plane, they are right, it is normal enough… except it’s not a magician’s stage stunt. Nor should it be regarded as being paranormal or supernatural. Perhaps we should call it something more ordinary, such as super-ordinary since it’s just you functioning within a higher vibratory field, unencumbered by the earth’s plane of physicality.

‘Likewise, your spirit body has its own rarified form of physicality, just not the same density as its mortal version. Spirit and physical are not mutually exclusive terms since spirit is prior, providing essence to outward patterns of physical form. And so this spirit body you experience is no illusion. If anything, it’s the material body that lacks real substance since it’s soon gone after its short sojourn on earth.’

As I later reflected on this topic of spirit and material frequencies of energy, it became clear to me that no matter how things manifest, all life is a miracle that emanates from the Source of all that is. Mo once indicated the only miracle that can’t be so readily explained is the divine alchemy that turns the wayward soul from darkness to light, from fear to love. This, perhaps, is the greatest of mysteries and the greatest of miracles.

After putting in a long day of work, I didn’t give it anymore thought whether I should consider our logging accomplishments a miracle or magical trick. What was more important was that we had plenty of firewood that would last us for several weeks. And so by the time we returned to the cabin, it was already twilight.

[2] Russian Mathematician and esoteric philosopher, P.I. Ouspenky, provided glimmerings into this topic in his various books such as Tertium Organum, New Model of the Universe and In Search of the Miraculous.

[3] The ZPF (Zero Point Field) is the vacuum state in the quantum field with the lowest energy possible with no manifest particles of energy. For some, this helps explain how thoughts may be equated with matter.

The second dialogue I'm including is from Chapter 8. Interestingly, this story is based on what a good friend of mine witnessed when in Rome. Several other reliable sources with him also witnessed this bizarre occurrence.

Early next morning, as usual, we reconvened for more dialogue. I was relieved my story from last night didn’t come up again; perhaps because I felt it too personal to analyze. Rather, we got on to the subject of scepticism. Sitting by the fireplace after breakfast, Mo asked, ‘so James, what does it mean when you say you’re a sceptic, especially now?’

‘First of all, it means I'm not gullible; I always look for a sound, rational explanation for whatever happens, particularly when there’s anything dodgy about the account. For the sake of truth, reason must always be prepared to challenge whatever assumptions are made in support of a belief that may be based on nothing more than superstition or religious indoctrination.’

‘And if that's all scepticism was about it would be commendable,’ Mo said. ‘However, I've often noticed that when strange inexplicable things happen to sceptics, or are witnessed by them, they find it very difficult to deal with such encounters. It’s a dilemma to have to believe nothing is happening even when it is. Eli helping you off the ridge would be one such example of being conflicted between a belief and what should have been obvious.’

‘I suppose it should have been obvious,’ I said, ‘but it didn’t seem that way at the time.’

‘No, but with your intelligence, I can understand why,’ he said. ‘I remember an experience I once had while living in Rome many years ago. I had a few guests staying with me from back home. One of them was a highly qualified professor who taught Civil Engineering at Leeds. He was particularly brilliant with numbers and prided himself as being a hard core sceptic about anything that couldn’t be reduced to measurement.

‘As fate would have it, the four of us were walking across a square that led to the Pantheon, when suddenly, right before our eyes, something most peculiar appeared. An aged, white haired East Indian yogi was sitting in the middle of the square in a lotus position with a long cane in his hand. What was unusual about this was not him sitting there, but that he was sitting there suspended about four feet above the ground. We looked closely, but there was nothing between him and the ground.

‘Naturally we were astonished to witness this strange rout over nature… except, of course, my engineering friend who seemed to be more agitated than anything by not being able to specifically identify what the trick was. After considerable examination from every angle, he refused to discuss the incident further, perhaps because he wasn’t able to come up with a plausible explanation that he was convinced had to exist.

‘What was also interesting is that later this guest had no recollection of the incident when I mentioned it to him about a year later when I was back in England. In fact, he just laughed when I brought it up, as if anything so preposterous could possibly have occurred. He didn't dismiss seeing the yogi; it’s just that he was oblivious as to how he saw him.

'The way he remembered it, the yogi was sitting on a mirrored box giving the illusion of space under him. He also thought he remembered seeing a pan on the ground with a sign begging for donations. If there had been one, we must have missed it, along with the mirrored box. Evidently he was having difficulty processing a spectacle that went contrary to his beliefs. In his mind, this didn't happen because it couldn't have happened. Such is the nature of preconceived beliefs.’

For further consideration on this topic of miracles, I have included in this post the Fifty Principles of Miracles From the book, A COURSE OF MIRACLES

undefined

FIFTY PRINCIPLES OF MIRACLES

1. There is no order of difficulty in miracles. One is not “harder” or “bigger” than another. They are all the same. All expressions of love are maximal.

2. Miracles as such do not matter. The only thing that matters is their Source, which is far beyond evaluation.

3. Miracles occur naturally as expressions of love. The real miracle is the love that inspires them. In this sense everything that comes from love is a miracle.

4. All miracles mean life, and God is the Giver of life. His Voice will direct you very specifically. You will be told all you need to know.

5. Miracles are habits, and should be involuntary. They should not be under conscious control. Consciously selected miracles can be misguided.

6. Miracles are natural. When they do not occur something has gone wrong.

7. Miracles are everyone’s right, but purification is necessary first.

8. Miracles are healing because they supply a lack; they are performed by those who temporarily have more for those who temporarily have less.

9. Miracles are a kind of exchange. Like all expressions of love, which are always miraculous in the true sense, the exchange reverses the physical laws. They bring more love both to the giver and the receiver.

10. The use of miracles as spectacles to induce belief is a misunderstanding of their purpose.

11. Prayer is the medium of miracles. It is a means of communication of the created with the Creator. Through prayer love is received, and through miracles love is expressed.

12. Miracles are thoughts. Thoughts can represent the lower or bodily level of experience, or the higher or spiritual level of experience. One makes the physical, and the other creates the spiritual.

13. Miracles are both beginnings and endings, and so they alter the temporal order. They are always affirmations of rebirth, which seem to go back but really go forward. They undo the past in the present, and thus release the future.

14. Miracles bear witness to truth. They are convincing because they arise from conviction. Without conviction they deteriorate into magic, which is mindless and therefore destructive; or rather, the uncreative use of mind.

15. Each day should be devoted to miracles. The purpose of time is to enable you to learn how to use time constructively. It is thus a teaching device and a means to an end. Time will cease when it is no longer useful in facilitating learning.

16. Miracles are teaching devices for demonstrating it is as blessed to give as to receive. They simultaneously increase the strength of the giver and supply strength to the receiver.

17. Miracles transcend the body. They are sudden shifts into invisibility, away from the bodily level. That is why they heal.

18. A miracle is a service. It is the maximal service you can render to another. It is a way of loving your neighbor as yourself. You recognize your own and your neighbor’s worth simultaneously.

19. Miracles make minds one in God. They depend on cooperation, because the Sonship is the sum of all that God created. Miracles therefore reflect the laws of eternity, not of time.

20. Miracles reawaken the awareness that the spirit, not the body, is the altar of truth. This is the recognition that leads to the healing power of the miracle.

21. Miracles are natural signs of forgiveness. Through miracles you accept God’s forgiveness by extending it to others.

22. Miracles are associated with fear only because of the belief that darkness can hide. You believe that what your physical eyes cannot see does not exist. This leads to a denial of spiritual sight.

23. Miracles rearrange perception and place all levels in true perspective. This is healing because sickness comes from confusing the levels.

24. Miracles enable you to heal the sick and raise the dead because you made sickness and death yourself, and can therefore abolish both. You are a miracle, capable of creating in the likeness of your Creator. Everything else is your own nightmare, and does not exist. Only the creations of light are real.

25. Miracles are part of an interlocking chain of forgiveness which, when completed, is the Atonement. Atonement works all the time and in all the dimensions of time.

26. Miracles represent freedom from fear. “Atoning” means “undoing.” The undoing of fear is an essential part of the atonement value of miracles.

27. A miracle is a universal blessing from God through me to all my brothers. It is the privilege of the forgiven to forgive.

28. Miracles are a way of earning release from fear. Revelation induces a state in which fear has already been abolished. Miracles are thus a means and revelation is an end.

29. Miracles praise God through you. They praise Him by honoring His creations, affirming their perfection. They heal because they deny body-identification and affirm spirit-identification.

30. By recognizing spirit, miracles adjust the levels of perception and show them in proper alignment. This places spirit at the center, where it can communicate directly.

31. Miracles should inspire gratitude, not awe. You should thank God for what you really are. The children of God are holy and the miracle honors their holiness, which can be hidden but never lost.

32. I inspire all miracles, which are really intercessions. They intercede for your holiness and make your perceptions holy. By placing you beyond the physical laws they raise you into the sphere of celestial order. In this order you are perfect.

33. Miracles honor you because you are loveable. They dispel illusions about yourself and perceive the light in you. They thus atone for your errors by freeing you from your nightmares. By releasing your mind from the imprisonment of your illusions, they restore your sanity.

34. Miracles restore the mind to its fullness. By atoning for lack they establish perfect protection. The spirit’s strength leaves no room for intrusions.

35. Miracles are expressions of love, but they may not always have observable effects.

36. Miracles are examples of right thinking, aligning your perceptions with truth as God created it.

37. A miracle is a correction introduced into false thinking by me. It acts as a catalyst, breaking up erroneous perception and reorganizing it properly. This places you under the Atonement principle, where perception is healed. Until this has occurred, knowledge of the Divine Order is impossible.

38. The Holy Spirit is the mechanism of miracles. He recognizes both God’s creations and your illusions. He separates the true from the false by His ability to perceive totally rather than selectively.

39. The miracle dissolves error because the Holy Spirit identifies error as false or unreal. This is the same as saying that by perceiving light, darkness automatically disappears.

40. The miracle acknowledges everyone as your brother and mine. It is a way of perceiving the universal mark of God.

41. Wholeness is the perceptual content of miracles. They thus correct, or atone for, the faulty perception of lack.

42. A major contribution of miracles is their strength in releasing you from your false sense of isolation, deprivation and lack.

43. Miracles arise from a miraculous state of mind, or a state of miracle-readiness.

44. The miracle is an expression of an inner awareness of Christ and acceptance of His Atonement.

45. A miracle is never lost. It may touch many people you have not even met, and produce undreamed of changes in situations of which you are not even aware.

46. The Holy Spirit is the highest communication medium. Miracles do not involve this type of communication, because they are temporary communication devices. When you return to your original form of communication with God by direct revelation, the need for miracles is over.

47. The miracle is a learning device that lessens the need for time. It establishes an out-of-pattern time interval not under the usual laws of time. In this sense it is timeless.

48. The miracle is the only device at your immediate disposal for controlling time. Only revelation transcends it, having nothing to do with time at all.

49. The miracle makes no distinction among degrees of misperception. It is a device for perception correction, effective quite apart from either the degree or the direction of the error. This is its true indiscriminateness.

50. The miracle compares what you have made with creation, accepting what is in accord with it as true, and rejecting what is out of accord as false.

SUMMARY OF ELYSIUM'S PASSAGE: THE SUMMIT

This the first in a series of five Elysium narrations regarding a young British philosopher named James Phillips who finds himself living in an altered state of reality while still remaining on earth.

After experiencing a near fatal fall while climbing to the summit of a remote mountain in the Andes, James awakens in a new dimension. He soon encounters two mysterious beings who provide him with a very different perspective on the nature of his existence. Over the next year, before his body recovers from the coma, he is challenged to re-examine his understanding about life’s meaning and purpose far beyond anything he previously believed, or could believe.

An engaging and sometime surreal adventure with intimations of impending romance, the narrative explores the most important questions about life, death, reality and our ultimate destiny.

The Plains of Elysium (Champs-Élysées) was described by Homer, Hesiod, Virgil and many other poets as the paradisiac afterlife realm reserved for heroes. As the title suggests, this is about a journey through a passage that leads towards Elysium’s exciting realm of existence.
