Building a lifestyle and business around something you are passionate about is the most rewarding experience you can have.

I still remember the first night I took to the DJ decks pumping tunes in front of a crowd in a favourite club! I was drenched in cold sweat as a result of nerves but I was elated. I had longed for this moment and even though I was not getting paid as I would have wanted, that feeling was priceless. 

About Business and Your Passion
 

I believe each and every one of us has something they are passionate about and good at doing. This is where the opportunity becomes ripe to create a business you love that allows you to serve others and to design and live the lifestyle you want.

  

My Passion

I started Djing professionally in 2013 after developing the courage to leave my engineering job.  It’s not been an easy road and I have come face to face with many challenges and failure numerous times. That includes two entertainment companies and a music - recording studio to be exact. 

If you have built a business around your passion and struggling to keep going you might understand what I am talking about. The financial stress, the long hours, family related challenges and the list goes on. It’s hard and painful, to say the least.

The truth is, it's all part of the game as an entrepreneur and freedom to do what you love demands a hefty price to be paid.

Steps To Create A Business You Love
 

So how do you create a successful business around your passion once your head and heart are in that same place called YES!?

 

1.     Find An Audience With A Big Problem
 

Do a market research based on that which you are passionate about and do it like your life depends on it.  Find problems and the bigger the better. If you cannot find a big enough problem, look for something people are very passionate about in that market.

 

As a DJ I find people who are passionate about the music I like to play. A passion around fitness and health, on the other hand, could tap into a problem where a certain demographic is time-poor which is causing them to eat unhealthy. 

   

2.     Set Your Focus
 

This is your ‘knight in shining armour’.  Take time to answer the following questions with as much clarity and detail as you can.  

 

What do you want out of it and why?

 

What is the one reason you will not give up?

 

What do you think your life will look like in the end?

 

Financial goals are an obvious choice. Everyone wants that million dollars pay day. However, if you want to be able to do it long term, I suggest you make your goals bigger than financial gain. Of course, include the million dollars in writing too!

 

 

3.     Create Your Command Centre Online
  

We live in a digital economy and everyone is hanging out online in some favourite social platform and searching solutions to problems on popular search engines. Create a plan to build a portfolio of your digital assets housed in one location. This location is your main website also known as an authority site. It houses your mission, vision, goals and content such as blogs and links to all your social media accounts.

 

4.     Build A List of Fans
 

Create a one-page website that is also called a lead capture page. The goal of this page is to capture potential new customers into your email database by offering them a quality free gift for signing up with you. The idea is to turn them into buying customers in future for your other products or services.

 

5.     Create Your High-Quality Product or Service

 

Assuming your research has uncovered a potential high-value product or service you will offer the market, this is where you turn your passion into profits.  If you have a digital business system set up, this could work for you in auto-pilot generating an income 24/7 if you so wish.  

 

Alternatively, if you don’t have a product or service yet, another popular way for new entrepreneurs is to find someone in the same market who in your opinion has the perfect product and find out from them if you could become their affiliate.  This is an inexpensive way to get deeper into your target market for more information.  

  

As an example, I was looking for ways to get better results with online marketing for one of my ventures including the DJ business. When I found my mentor online, I realised that I could become affiliated with the quality information he sells in the Internet marketing niche. 

Now, I get to learn about marketing and how to monetize products and services online.  At the same time, I get paid for recommending other people who want the same quality information I was looking for. The extra income could go back into your business if looking to get your business back on the financial fast track. 

  

Final Thoughts
  

Turning your passion into profits is now more reachable than ever before.  The information you need is available but you must be willing to do the work.  You will not be able to figure everything out before you start but as you progress, the puzzle starts to fit. 

 

I hear people say it’s hard to make money as an artist, photographer, homepreneur or in my case as a DJ. For the most part, it is true. However, I came to understand that the skill to create a business around a passion you love is what most people lack. This need not be a challenge today.
