Business and corporate life stole my time

At 59 years old I have had 25 years plus in the small business environment, I have been successful in building from a start up and also buying a going concern and developing the business to succesful profitable levels. These tips are based on my own journey between the age of 40-50.  My aim in choosing this subject will hopefully help any small business to succeed and miss the pit falls of failure. 

How I lost time in business

I wanted my own business in the traditional world we know, to create financial freedom and I thought  more time . This also relates to a corporate career as well, in this economical climate we are all working harder and longer for less income in real terms.

Downfalls of running a business or on the corporate ladder :

• No time with my kids as they were growing up
• I didn't realise 12 hr days would be the norm
• I had a 40 minute commute 
• I thought I would get quality of life and a lifestyle
• I didn't have enough time to enjoy my hobbies
• I couldn't travel as much as I wanted
• Not enough to retirement on
• I was on a hamster wheel
• I was stressed and no patience

When I bought my last business I assumed once it started to be successful I would be able to put a team together and have some time off work to spend quality time with my family when I needed it. However the reality was that as the business grew, I did manage to put a team together, the whole thing became a hungry machine. I had to watch cash flow, manage the key members of my team, keep my eye on stock levels etc etc. I ended up working more hours than ever before and when I managed a short break , it was terrible, I couldn't relax until I got back to the office and started working.

I now have found that all the above is possible by building an on line business, I am much happier, relaxed and I work when I want to from home or anywhere I happen to be in the country. This means no more commuting in the winter, when it's snowing outside I don't have to go outside and no more worrying if staff have arrived at work. I can also build my business in my spare time and it carries on working for me while I am doing other things in life.

I wanted to start a new business via the internet I knew the internet industry is growing faster than traditional markets.  However my capitol was limited as I had no income stream. 

I avoided " the so called " get rich quick schemes" and " the scammers " I found an academy that teaches me the various options of an on line business. I was not " techie" I could E mail, copy and paste that's about all I could do at that time.
