Are you upset with things you cannot do?

Do you often feel that you are not good at something? Are people telling you: “you did this wrong”, “you should have done this way or that way…”.

  • Have you ever gotten home and your significant other complained because you forgot the milk they asked for?
  • Have you ever been called to your boss’s office because a customer complained about you, or because you got 5 min late to work?
  • Have you ever heard the sentence, you’re not good enough?

Well, let me tell you. You are probable NOT good enough indeed.

Okay, Okay! Before you get mad at me. Let me explain.

We are not good at everything. There is always something we are weak at. And that is fine. Imagine if everyone was great at the same things?. That would be awful. In fact, it is actually good that you are not good at everything. And here is the moment where you know your weaknesses.

But remember NOT to focus on them.

Your weaknesses

Keep in mind that you cannot do, what you cannot do. It’s either because, at the moment, we lack skill, tools, knowledge, physical ability or interest.

However, there are thing today you are good at. In fact, there are some things you might be great at.

Then, focus on them.

Your strengths

In order for you to focus on your strengths, you need to know them. You must be aware of your strengths. This leads me to the question:

Do you know your strengths?

Do you know what you are good at?

If you don’t. Then I ask you to take a moment and think about the things you do it effortlessly. Things that you might think that everyone can do it too, since it is so “easy” and “normal”. Things like, go shopping, organizing your closet, paying your bills or even writing a blog…

Did you figure it out?

Now I want to share with you what one of the greatest mind in self-management wrote. But before that, let me introduce you to him.

Peter Druckerundefined

Peter Drucker is the father of modern human management. He wrote many books and was very well respected in his field. In article Managing Oneself he wrote “one can only overcome weakness by developing strengths”.

Drucker is not suggesting forgetting your weaknesses. On the contrary, we must be aware of them.

However, we cannot achieve anything if we don’t act. And we cannot act on something we cannot do. Here is where our strengths lie.

Do what you are good at.

Then, what are the things you can do? Act on those.

Build on your strengths. Get things done on what you are good at.

With time, you will be great at it. And your strengths will shine brighter than your weaknesses, to a point that your weaknesses will become irrelevant.
