After my contract finished in the Ekofisk oil field, it was time to home. The journey I dreaded back onto the supply boat and the weather had turned as well. Trying to board the vessel as she pulled along side was a little tricky, it had to be timed to jump on board as the swell lifted the boat up to the deck of the barge. We managed to board but as we set off the weather got even worse. If you want to get a feel of bad weather on these vessels click the link.
Our destination was into Stavanger Norway, then catch a plane into holland to connect back home to London airport then train to my home on Derby. Needless to say sea sickness started with in 1 hour of been on board. We had traveled for about 10 hours and entered the Norwegian Fjords, I had never seen anything so beautiful in all my life. The seas were calm, the sun was shining and the experience of traveling through the Fjords was amazing.
I eventually arrived home tired from my journey and reflecting on my first experience. I spent the next two days fishing on the river trent, the solitude was welcome, alone with my thoughts enjoying the green grass, trees and dry land. All the things I took for granted in my everyday life suddenly after just looking at the sea, took on a new perspective. On the third day Ed Rivet telephoned and a new contact 30 days working on an American owned barge in the Forties Oil Field, get on the train tomorrow, Aberdeen here I come again !!
I am happy and fulfilled, I have a property business and an online business. I have learnt to serve others ( as I hope I am doing now ) respect others for what they are trying to achieve no matter how big or small their ambition. I work on my attitude each day and look to help anyone I can on a daily basis.
