There are several Pillars of Success. The first I'd like to have a conversation about is responsibility.
Where It may Have Started
It is said in history; The buck stops here. President Truman said it while in office. He had it on a sign in the Oval Office on his desk. But what does that mean exactly? All responsibility stops at that point. Truman wasn't the first to use the expression. It was started by an Army Colonel in WWII. Colonel A.B. Warfield. He had it on his desk and a mutual friend of the two saw it on the colonel's desk and made a copy of it and gave it to Truman. (sic www.phrase.org.uk) But that is just a little history I wanted to make known.
What Is Responsibility?
Responsibility is being answerable to you, your life, your family, and anything else having to do with you. It is the first pillar of success. Why? Because your life, thoughts, and attitudes is the only thing you can control. You are answerable to anything in your life. It is you being accountable that puts you in control. Indeed, in power. If you take control of everything in your life, you can do anything you want--with your life. You have within you the ability to change. In fact, change is the only thing that is constant in this universe. You're going to change whether you want to or not.
What Should You Do?
Work on a new attitude. A new set of ideals. And there are several ways to do that. Just search the internet or You Tube. There are tons of sites and videos that can guide you to self improvement. Think Tony Robbins for instance. Life will also be more than happy to teach you how to become more than you are today. But that is more of a butt kicking should you go that route. I discovered recently an Abraham Hicks. Now that will get you to listen to how to run your life and why things go bad ... or well--for anyone's life. You quickly learn that your life is your fault, good or bad. There are a ton of books you can read and learn how to change your thinking pattern. Go read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Don't only read it, do what's suggested in the book. Bottom line is; if you don't take responsibility of your life, where will you end up? People have a tendency of procrastinating and putting off success. Is that succeeding at anything? A no brainer.
Do Not Take Blame
And before I leave you so you can ponder, I want to leave you with this one thought. Taking responsibility is not taking blame. And as a side note, it is not being a victim. So, if someone should cross you, and you have no idea what this person is talking about, take the initiative to take the responsibility to do something to correct it. Don't let it simmer until it erupts into something ugly. If it's not your fault, you shouldn't take blame. But taking blame doesn't fix anything. You should, by all means take responsibility. You'd be amazed where you can go in life if you do.
If you apply this ot your business, you'd be surprised where you can take it and create with it.
