SEO Keyword Density – How Important Actually is it to Your Ranking?

So you want your page to rank top of google search for your chosen keyword. Out of a possible 60 trillion plus pages and growing it has to be said it’s no easy feat. It does get easier however with a little knowledge of what is actually looked for when it comes to ranking pages. And if you’re in the blogging world you most certainly have heard of SEO (search engine optimisation) and also keyword density as one branch on that tree.

A much talked about topic in the blogging/ content marketing world, what is the optimum SEO keyword density to get high rankings fast. But is there a magical density, a formulae a magic trick using keywords which will get you almost instant first page rankings on google? Well I think that we all know the simple answer to that is no, but how much does keyword density actually matter to getting your page ranked?

Well after a bit of digging I found out that actually not all that much at all apparently… the algorithm used by google when searches happen has over 200 factors.

Yes, one of the factors which is looked at is the keyword they you may have used within the post, however when it is there it also looks at the wording of it. It must make sense in its placement and appear organically. The reader wants to be able to make sense of what they’re reading. So worry less about a magic percentage or how often you can fit the keyword into the piece and more about how it is used.

This YouTube Video explains it in much greater detail and comes from the Google Webmaster YouTube channel itself:

They file through the pages in this way to make sure that the top posts on their browser do/es share the highest quality information possible. Before, when there may have been an optimum SEO keyword density, keywords could and would just be thrown into a page for the sake of it which leads to very poor experience for the user of the browser. This is called stuffing and causes posts to be very awkward to read. Obviously web browsers who are essentially recommending their pages to their users discovered that user experience wasn’t being optimised by search results from merely finding a word in an article at a certain density or the most time and then recommending it as the closes answer they could find and so it has been altered.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I checked in with Kaspar Szymanski, a former google webspam hunter and now SEO consultant and
this is what he had to say on the topic:

“Keyword density has nowadays limited practical application for SEO and mustn't be focused on for on-page optimization in a competitive niche. Applying any keyword undefineddensity formula, instead of for example evaluating user experience signals, server logs and crawler budget distribution which is by far more important for large websites is in SEO terms utterly pointless.”

With the algorithms which are used to feedback the results of a search ever changing and so many more pages being indexed each day trying to rank on search engines will never be straight forward. What I would recommend to do when trying to write a post for a blogging site such as this one which will rank would be to write as high a quality a piece as you can, forget the keywords being the forefront of the SEO and focus on user experience when reading the post.

If you think hat this post might help you social media followers don’t be shy with hitting one of the share buttons, it would mean a lot to us!

Until next time… Keep hustlin!
