How To Give Yourself The Life You Deserve

What do you dream about doing with your life?

This is a big question.  So many people quietly fantasize about their dream life but believe that for them it isn't really possible.  They are stuck in old belief systems around what they are capable of achieving and think that success only happens to other people.

Release Limiting Beliefs

But that is all it is - a belief - and you can choose to believe in a different story.  It isn't too late to start dreaming - you did it as a child and you can do it again.  Research shows that daydreaming is actually good for us (read my blog on the benefits of daydreaming).

I started to dream again aged 47 when I realised that I couldn't carry on living a mediocre life.  I was concerned about getting old and one day having regrets about all the things that I hadn't done in my life.

For me, kids and a family didn't happen, and that's ok but I realised that if that were the case then I would need to start addressing what I was going to do with the rest of my life.  And those things would be to find my purpose and start living my dreams.

Feeling Undervalued

I have had many jobs in my life, nothing particularly thrilling but then in my thirties, I went to university and got myself a design degree.  When I left uni I worked for myself for several years but soon found that it was a hard slog for not much in return and that took its toll, I no longer felt excited by it.  I eventually moved back into employed life but had a string of bad bosses and toxic work environments.

Turning Things Round

Now thankfully I am working part-time for a small and friendly business but I know that one day I will be wanting more.  I still have big dreams, I want more time freedom so I can travel more and do more of the voluntary work that I so enjoy doing, but also I want to be comfortable when I am older.

Learning New Skills

So now in my spare time, I am learning the skills that I need so that I can travel while I work and do the voluntary work alongside.  I am catching up with the digital world, gaining valuable and transferable skills through an up to date education system.  I'm working with incredible coaches and finding support in a community of like-minded people.

My dreams are being acknowledged - by me and the people I am surrounding myself with - and I am excited about my future but I am also grateful for what I have now.  And here are the key things, you need to have some appreciation for where you are in your journey, and you need to surround yourself with people who believe in your dreams too.  If they don't believe you won't believe.

Eyes On The Prize

Travel, voluntary work, and a good pension are now in my line of sight.  This is no 'get rich quick' thing, I am in it for the long haul.  And this isn't just about income, this is about changing in positive ways and shaping my future, giving something back and going to sleep each night feeling happy that I've done my best.  The journey is worth it.

In the not too distant future, I will be working from my laptop in Snowdonia or Loch Lomond or somewhere equally as beautiful while I am traveling the country, either by bike or in my camper van (with bike attached of course).  It may sound like a simple dream, and I think it is but it is one that I relish.

If there is one valuable piece of advice that I can give you, it is to start living your best life right now.  Give yourself some time to go through your dreams and goals, and then ask yourself; 'what is the one thing that I can do right now to move me in the direction of my dream?'  When the answer comes, drop me a line and let me know what it is.  I'd love to hear from you.

You are the creator of your own dreams, don't limit yourself!
