It’s difficult to find time building your online empire while working 9 to 5. The lack of time and the fact that you must stay committed to your employer are just some of the challenges you might face.
The good news is that it’s now more possible than ever before to create a successful online business on the side. So many others have done it before, let me show you how you can, too.
First Accept That There Will Be Challenges
For many people working 9 to 5, their first challenge would be what product to sell and what business to go into.
As they would want something easy with low maintenance, something that is easy to source or manufacture.
I would like to assure you that it’s easier than ever before to start online today, the easiest way to start is to leverage other people’s products while learning the ropes on how you can start developing your own product/brand. For example you can become an affiliate marketer i.e. promote other people’s products when you are starting off. Learn More Here
But the biggest challenge most people face when starting their side gig while working 9 to 5 is simply the time!
It’s also important to understand that it’s not going to be easy. If you want to see your online business flourish, you will have to say goodbye to most of your evenings, weekends and your social calendar! Use your evenings and weekends to build up slowly and your income from 9-5 can also be used to scale your new side gig.
It’s important to note that in the beginning you will have to make the sacrifices but in the long run you will have more freedom and the payoffs the sacrifices you are making will be tremendous in the long run.
The advantage you have is that it’s a lot less risky as you still have your job to fall back to, and you can leverage other people’s knowledge and expertise if you have decided to sell other people’s products.
There are so many others who have done this before you;
Peter Keller started Fringe Sport on the side in the year 2010 while still doing 9 to 5. He went on to eventually take his side business from $100k to $3m in only three years.
Stuart Ross co-founder of the Digital Experts Academy Started as an affiliate marketer while working 9-5 and eventually was able to quit his job after 6 month.
What You Will Need to Build a Successful Side Business
1. Un-wavering Amount of Focus
Time, resources and energy will be in short supply therefore you will need to pick an option and focus on it, pick a niche, a market a strategy and focus on it. Find what works and stick with it before moving to something else.
2. Take Consistent Action Everyday
In the beginning it’s all about baby steps, success will not happen overnight. You will be working on the business in chunks of time evening, weekend etc. A slow and steady approach that is consistent is what you will need to be successful.
3. Outsource, Outsource, Outsource!
How much is your time worth to you? Get virtual assistants to help you free your time. There are so many out there to name a few Guru.com and Fiverr.com are great for outsourcing. If you are designing a website, creating a logo, putting together an eBook, email autoresponders etc. Most services will start from just 5Usd.
4. Automate, Automate, Automate!
Tools like Buffer and Hootsuite allow you to schedule your Tweets and Facebook posts ahead of time. Spend your sunday night to schedule out a your blogposts and Facebook posts for the week ahead.
Automate your email marketing. Set up an autoresponder, sequence of emails that go out automatically after a visitor opts into your email list. For example, instead of manually emailing your list weekly use AWeber or Mailchimp
In the beginning you will probably feel overwhelmed as you will be battling your time every day, but remember to stay motivated. Stay focused because achieving your goals is truly possible.
If so many others before you have done it why can’t you do it?
