Writing a Copy is a MENTAL process. The process can be simplified by following a few simple steps.
Copywriting is the key to any successful marketing campaign. You can have the world’s best product or service but if you can’t entice your customers, you really have nothing.
Step 1: Become an expert on the product or service you are planning to sell by discovering everything you could about the product or service you are selling.
Step 2: Know your prospect. You might become an expert on your product or service but if you don’t know your customer you are at a big disadvantage. Find out what will motivate your prospects to become customers, who is your typical prospect?
Step 3: Write your headline and subhead line. They must grab the reader and create enough curiosity to cause the reader to go to read more short and compelling headlines work best.
Step 4: Write the copy. Don’t worry about the structure, grammar punctuation just write and write and let everything flow. The idea is to dump everything and edit later on.
Step 5: Edit your copy, go through it and correct the spelling, grammar, punctuation, structure etc.
Step 6: Incubate. This is the most important step of all. Stop editing, put the text aside and take a walk or do something else. You will be amazed at what getting away from the text will do for you. If you can come back to it the next day, even better, the more time between what you have just edited and taking the next step -all the better.
Step 7: Take the final look at your copy you and decide how much more refining you will be able to make copy with the final look. You could continue step 5 and 6 until you are happy with the results.
When writing an ad copy, it’s important to bear in mind that, you want to get the reader to say yes and harmonise with the message you are conveying while reading your copy.
