The festive season is upon us. We are all looking forward to celebrating with friends and family. Inviting food, delicious desserts, and plenty of Christmas drinks that it would be easy to let go of our health and wellness.
At the same time, looking and feeling at your best is essential so with these simple but effective methods you will feel energised and fit, not only this festive season but on a regular basis.
Spending 15 to 20 minutes on yourself every morning will ensure you get into a daily routine before other commitments, and it will kickstart your metabolism for the rest of the day.
1. Drink Plenty of Water
By Keeping yourself hydrated, you will help your body feel energised. Every cell, tissue, and organ in your body needs water to work correctly. Drinking 2 to 3 litres of water will give your skin a natural glow and helps weight loss. Your body uses water to maintain its temperature, remove waste, and lubricate your joints. Water is necessary for overall good health.
10 to 15 minutes Meditation will help you to feel more centred, more positive, quiet the internal chatter of the brain and reduce stress. It will allow you to focus your mind on better feeling thoughts.
The process of breathing is much more than an essential function of your physical body. It is the flowing of Spirit to you, and through you. Meditation is not an exercise of effort or trying, but instead a practice of releasing and allowing. Gently relax, breathe and enjoy.
Full, intense breath in ... 1, 2, 3 and long, slow, natural breath out .... 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. In time, your body will remember its newfound rhythm.
3. Yoga Exercises
When you wake up in the morning, your body can be a little stiff, so gentle stretching exercises can be an excellent way to start your day and stay active.
Yoga has many benefits. It enhances flexibility with the regular use of restorative poses and helps you release the tension your body habitually holds. Helps improve your immune system and it takes your body into a state that allows your body for renewal and rejuvenation.
It quiets your mind and takes you to a place of stillness and peacefully basking in the present moment.
4. Take a Break
Christmas can be stressful so be sure to set aside time to relax and do something that replenishes you. Simple things like going for a morning walk or cycling. Climb stairs instead of using the lift.
Have a long bath, read a good book or magazine, meet up with a friend or take a dance class, it will be fun, and it will keep you active.
5. Choose Wisely
Recent research suggests that we consume around 3,000 calories in our Christmas dinner. This considerable feast not only contributes to weight gain but also to indigestion and heartburn - not to mention lethargy for the rest of the day, reducing the chances of you burning much of it.
If you plan to indulge, choose items that are only prepared on these special occasions but be sure to limit the portion. Also, don't skimp on the fruits and vegetables - these will help you to feel full and keep you from overeating the less healthy options.
