Why are Base Oils Underrated –  The Benefits of Base Oils

Base oils, or Carrier Oils as they are sometimes referred to, are seriously underrated by anyone not trained in Aromatherapy.  Of course, the manufacturers of Creams and Lotions are aware of the properties as many have been known to include at least 2 or 3 beneficial Base Oils in face and body products during manufacture. There are hundreds of Base or Carrier Oils but few know that they have health benefits used on their own and can enhance the benefits of essential oils too.

Base oils are oils produced from vegetables, nut or seeds.  As essential oils, in their pure state, are too highly concentrated to be used directly on the skin, the essential oils are diluted in a Base Oil. undefinedThere are several hundred different plants known to have oil-bearing seeds, but only a few are produced commercially although the numbers are growing as scientists’ research and realise the health benefits.  Vegetable oils, in the main, are produced for food and are a good source of nutrients and energy.  They are also a good source of protein.  The difference to food based oils and Base Oils used for massage is that the latter should be Cold Pressed rather than extracted via chemical processes.
