The Effects Of Stress On Your Body

 Are you stressed out? Do you know how harmful the effects of stress on the body are?

 Whether it’s the kids, your job, the traffic, an argument or the dog pooping all over the yard, these things can cause a lot of stress on the body, along with other day to day issues.

 So how does stress affect the body?

 Your hypothalamus, its a region in the brain that functions as the main control center. Hormones from the hypothalamus govern physiologic functions such as sleep, mood, hunger, thirst, regulating temperature, sex drive and the release of other hormones in the body.

 The stress hormones trigger the bodies fight or flight response, which is perceived as a threat or danger, physically or emotionally. Your heart rate races rapidly, your digestion slows down and your blood pressure is increased and your whole body tenses up.

So putting stress on our bodies day in, day out, the stress response will keep on firing. In turn, this could put our health and wellbeing at serious risk.

 And that’s just to name a few. So what can we do to relieve stress? There are many things we can do, but here are a few things that I do that has helped me immensely!

MEDITATION- Get up a little bit earlier than you normally would, find a peaceful, comfortable spot. And if you’ve never meditated before you can always Youtube 'meditation for beginners' which has an abundance of videos, so choose one that resonates with you. This is really helpful to set your intensions for the day with a calm, positive open mind.undefined

WATCH THE SUNRISE- Again, if you can get up a bit earlier than usual, breath in the new day with that fresh crisp air and make the time to watch the sunrise, it will give you that boost of energy you need to start the day. Take big deep breaths and feel gratitude. Take that feeling with you throughout the day.

WALK ON THE BEACH- Smell the salty air, feel the sand in your toes, swim in the ocean, get out in nature, walk amongst the trees, listen to the birds, whatever makes you feel good.

 undefinedClearing our minds of negativity and mindless chatter often opens up opportunities for answers to our questions, peace from our pain, still from our chaos, and calm from our anger. Nature always makes me feel better when im stressed, give it a try.

 If none of these are any good for you, you can always try other things, like reading a good book or listening to some personal development speakers. There are a lot of incredible ones out there which I will speak more about in future blogs. Finding a new job if the one you have doesn’t fullfil you and make you happy. Exercise, do yoga, find a new sport or hobbie, be adventurous, laugh and be silly, play like you used to as a child. Stress will always come and go, learn to let it go, don’t hold onto it. Don’t let stress create disease and sickness in you.
