The Tao of Success

Success is the natural outcome of the conscious allowing of the unfoldment of life...

Every day we strive towards getting, towards achieving and adding something more to our lives, but the simple truth is that it's in the moments when we are not trying to get anything that we experience the most joy and freedom. It is when we are at one with the present and when we just allow things to be as they are that we can see the inherent beauty of life, its when we are in the Tao...

I have been reading from the Tao Te Ching for about 20 years now and for those of you who aren't familiar, the Tao Te Ching is an ancient book written over 2500 years ago by a man simply known as Lao Tzu, whose name roughly translates from Chinese as 'Old Man'. The title of the book itself translates as 'The Book of the Way and its Virtue' - Tao meaning 'The Way'.

Lao Tzu is said to have been on his way out of his city to go and live the rest of his days in the mountains, but as he was leaving the city walls he was stopped by a guard who asked him where he was going... When the guard learned that this incredibly wise old man was going to leave the city never to return, he asked him to write down a few words of his insights which he could leave behind.

Those 'few words' became the Tao Te Ching...

The Tao of Success

The immense depth and wisdom contained within the 81 verses of this concise work allow readers with an open mind to access and enter the Tao (The Way) for themselves...

It is most definitely not an intellectual scripture with a set of instructions or techniques on how to achieve something, nor is it a religious doctrine or set of rules and guidelines.

Simply put the Tao Te Ching is a window, a portal into the ever-present life that exists behind all things

It connects us with the underlying wisdom and fathomless power, potential and unity of what we truly are...

The Tao of Success

Success in the ordinary sense to the everyday person generally means the accumulation of things and the achievement of goals. We want to succeed in our jobs, our relationships, and we strive to have successful outcomes to the various projects that we undertake...

The desire for growth and evolution is completely natural and it is very necessary for the development of life, societies and the universe at large. This innate desire is part of who we are and we can see the process and growth of evolution all around us in nature...

But what has happened is that we have allowed our thinking minds to take over the orchestrating of this natural growth and we believe we can do it better than life itself!

The Tao of Success

The essence of the teaching of the Tao is this - simply get out of the way and allow the natural unfoldment of success to manifest itself in our lives...

When we are in the womb we do not worry, everything is taken care of for us and we want for nothing at all, we are nurtured by the Tao. When we are born the Tao is still there, but the minds of people take over and start to create stories and dramas for us, cutting us off from our source.

Now I want to qualify here what I mean by 'get out of the way'. This doesn't mean that we just lay about and wait for some mysterious force to take care of our lives for us! What it means is that we stop paying attention to our thinking minds and develop the habit of looking within to the ever-present source of life that resides in each of us, the Tao within.

Then once we have begun to root ourselves more deeply in this source, which is the Tao, our thoughts, actions, and behaviors start to come into harmony with life because they themselves are born out of this harmony. Then we no longer experience stress, worry, frustration and a sense separateness, all of which are products of trying to go 'against the way'.

We only need to look at nature to understand the power and beauty of being in harmony.

The Tao of Success

Success then is the act of conscious allowing, of practicing what Wayne Dyer calls 'Non-Intervention' and trusting that just as we have our own connection to the Tao, so too does everything else. This trust also allows us to rest in the wisdom that if something does need doing, it will happen, and happen through us if deemed necessary by the great life in all things...

Ultimate success is the proper unfoldment of our true nature

The things that we try to accomplish with our limited thinking minds pale into insignificance compared to the marvelous potential and magic that lay inside us waiting to be realized. Our job is not to stress and strain to make our dreams happen, but rather to support and nurture the music that waits within us to be expressed, in whatever way brings us most happiness and joy.

The Tao then is the source of the pure, good and true, and once we begin to recognize the Tao within and let it shine forth into the world, we will begin to experience the true meaning of success...

Start today and begin living in the Tao, give yourself the gift of getting in touch with that source within and allow the unfoldment of your true nature...
