Life Is A Puzzle

We Don't All Build Alike

Life is a puzzle in so many ways! I have been thinking about this recently. As a child, I loved building puzzles. It was a family activity when we had a break from school. I remember many New Years and Christmas Eves sitting around a card table building a puzzle with the family. We always built the edges first and then filled in the middle. We had all of the pieces laid out in front of us and turned right side up. We would sort colors in different areas on the table. I always thought that this was the way everyone built puzzles. Then I built one with my sisters-in-law and my whole perception changed! They sort out colors and start building the images in the middle first. They only have the pieces out on the table that they are working with at the time so that they don't get overwhelmed. This was a new concept for me, so I had to adjust to their method. I still built the edge first because that's just what I do. undefinedIn helping with the center, I felt that it was difficult at times to find a specific piece because I didn't have all of the choices in front of me. I would have to look in the box where the pieces were upside down and disorganized. It was a very different concept for me, so I had to adapt my approach. In the end, we completed the puzzle. Although it's not the way I would have done it, the goal was still reached. The lesson for me is that if we persist in our goals we will reach our destination one way or another.

Each Piece Is Necessary

The second thought I've had is that each of us has a role to play in this life. We make up the whole together. Each piece, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant has a place in the big picture. Anyone who has reached the end of a puzzle and finds that they are missing a piece realizes this truth! Every one of us has a unique skill, talent, insight, and uniqueness that benefits the whole. We need each other and we can accomplish much more when we work together.

undefinedThe Fun Is In Building

We all have things that we want to accomplish in life. When building a puzzle, the objective is to finish it so that you see the big picture. There are challenges along the way. We have things that we need to discover and learn. We figure out the things that don't work and celebrate when we succeed in overcoming an obstacle. The joy is really in the journey, not the final result. Often people think: "I will be happy when...". What they don't seem to realize is that there is always the next goal once we reach what we are seeking. There is also the next obstacle, roadblock, or detour to the next big thing we want out of life. This is why we should learn to enjoy the journey. After all, when the puzzle is finished and we have admired it, the only thing left to do is tear it apart, put it back in the box, and break out another one!
