How do you sharpen your Axe? What do you do to prepare yourself for what's to come?

"If I had 6 hours to chop down a tree I would spend the first 4 hours sharpening my axe" - Abraham Lincoln

You may ask yourself why one would spend so much time sharpening the axe.  Wouldn't it be better to just chop down the tree?  At first glance you may think that but just think about it.  If you just jumped straight on in and started chopping the tree with a blunt axe, how hard do you think that would be? However, if the axe was nice and sharp, it would be easier and take less effort.  So it makes sense to spend some time preparing the axe to make the task ahead easier.

So if you were about to start a new task of some sort, would it make sense to prepare yourself?  Make sure that your mind is sharp, your tools are sharp, you are sharp. Be prepared for what's ahead.

How do you do this?

There are ways to do this and it will vary with everybody but here are some ways to help you to sharpen your axe.

Mix with like minded positive people - iron sharpens iron.  Who you hang with will make a huge difference to how you think, act and do.

Read - reading about things that empower you, educate you, encourage you and develop you.

Set up systems - ensure that the systems you need are set up properly, running efficiently and up to date.

Remember also that over time your axe will become blunt through it being used constantly, which means we need to be constantly sharpening it. It's not something that you do once and then that's it.  It needs to be done often and regularly.

Our minds, our spirits, our bodies all become dull and unhealthy if we don't keep them rejuvinated.

If you feel like an area of your life is lacking, take a look at what you are doing.  Are you actively maintaining and growing or have you forgotten to feed your mind, your spirit and your body? We have all done that at some time in our lives.  That's ok, we are after all human.  What's not okay is staying there.

Keep evolving, keep growing, keep building.
