Social Media, friend or foe? Either way, it's the future so get over it. I’ve said this before, but social media is the future and you need to get used to social media being part of your work life.
It's expected there will be 2.5 billion social media users worldwide by 2018. Right now, 90% of adults age 18 – 29 are using social media. More specifically one-third of all Millennials ( ie typically known as people born between the early 1980s and the early 2000s) say it’s their preferred channel for communicating with businesses. Their habits are not going to change. What’s trending now is going to be normal later. And this is where your workforce comes from. Even if you can’t quantify, dollar for dollar, or even hire for hire, what the value of social is, at some point very soon, that’s all going to be a non-issue.
Social media allows us to be more agile, immediate, fluid, transparent, honest, candid. At the same time, it can be unfiltered, thoughtless and plain blockheaded. But more than anything else, social media and begin social is the way we exist. It’s far more than just posting on Face book or Instagram. It’s a currency of thought, and it’s the future of work.
