3 steps to Get It Together

Everyone needs a wake up call every once in a while. At some point or another we all are in need of a little direction. Kudos to those who have their goals lined up, but if you're like me, you're constantly figuring out what it is exactly that you want, and adjusting it from time to time. It's important that you adjust your goals. There is a difference between adjusting goals and giving up. Just because you have a more important target to shoot for doesn't mean that you quit what you were doing. You just rerouted.

When you do have your goals aligned (Check out my previous blog about goal setting), it's still not always easy to actually start working towards it. Sarah Knight is a self-proclaimed "anti-guru" and a successful author. She appeared on one of my favorite podcasts Zestology recently and spoke about her latest book called "Get Your Sh*t Together: How to stop worrying about what you should do so you can finish what you need to do and start doing what you want to do" The name alone gives you the gist.

The backbone of Sarah Knight's GYST theory(Get Your Sh*t Together) revolve around her idea that getting it together is as easy as remembering your keys, phone, and wallet before you leave the house.

The keys represent strategy. After you set a goal, you have a handful of keys, or steps, that unlock different obstacles to reach your goal. That's your strategy. What do you need to do in order to get where you want. Break it down as much as possible within reason and it makes it all the more attainable.

Your phone represents focus. If you're looking to change careers and you know that you have to research the requirements to be certified in a new career, then you need to set that time aside to do so. Schedule time in your day specifically to reach you goals. It seems elementary but when you put the pen to paper (or a phone reminder) it makes "i'll maybe do it tomorrow" into "I am busy from 10am-11am tomorrow morning"

The wallet represents commitment. You have your strategy, you have your time. Now lets make it a real plan and stick to it. This could be financial commitment but is also emotional commitment.

Zestology always has exciting podcasts and I encourange anyone to listen on a daily basis. These steps have definitely come in handy in my personal situations. When I decided to change my career path, it is definitely a scary hurdle to take on. When it is broken down into easy steps like Sarah Knights, it all seems so much more manageable.

Find your own route, but if you cant, take the advice of those who have. I did through some great mentors at SFM. Having someone there for you is invaluable. If you'd like to learn about how to get a mentor like I did to help launch an online lifestyle check out some of the tips in the free 7 day video series. Whatever your direction is, get that plan and direction and make moves every day. Get your sh*t together and start living the life you deserve.
