What's your greatest asset?

What do you value most in life?
This question can be approached from many different perspectives. I'm coming from it at a personal level. This might sound selfish, but I think I am my greatest asset.
I've invested a lot of time and effort into being the person I am today. Other people have too. My parents, family, friends, strangers, coworkers, etc.
Even those that have nothing, still have themselves and that's the greatest gift anyone can ever give to another person. Your time is priceless.
How do you value yourself?
My best full time salary was $80k per year, but I know that's not what I'm worth. Am I the sum of all the tertiary courses I've ever done? Is a person valued by their level of education? Even though I have a degree and several other bits of paper...I certainly hope not. They are not the extent of what I can contribute.
The reality is, that's primarily how we are valued in society. When you applied for your last job, someone decided what you were worth. Fancy that?! I'm 100% certain that they asked you about your level of education.
I use to think that my fancy bits of paper meant something. All they say is that I'm capable of learning and can follow through on something until the end. I don't think that's such a big deal. Most people can commit and follow through if given the opportunity. Don't you agree?
Free education
The internet and life experiences can provide us all the education we need in order to be a valued member of society. Everything I learnt via paid education is available FREE online. There's nothing stopping anyone from learning about what it is that you're passionate about.
Yes I know this Diana, but that doesn't mean anything in job interviews! The prospective employer (who am I kidding...these days it's all through recruitment agencies), wants to see that fancy, expensive bit of paper in order to prove that you know what you say you do. Isn't that what a probationary initial period of employment is for?
I'm just going to put it out there...but maybe if we apply our knowledge, experiences and passion into doing something we actually want to do for a living, then we can hire ourselves?! Crazy notion, I know.
Many people do it and whilst not all go on to become rich and famous, they can at least determine how they choose to value their greatest asset. Themselves. You get out what you put in, not what someone else has determined your worth per hour.
Alternative value system
By taking ownership of what you do on a daily basis, it's empowering and so much more rewarding! When did we all become so afraid to try something different or a little outside our comfort zones? You owe it to yourself to invest and trust in your greatest asset. YOU!
Remember back when you were a kid and someone asked what you wanted to be when you grew up? Did any accountant ever say "I want to be an accountant when I grow up?" I've just randomly chosen a profession, but you get what I'm trying to get across, right.
We've only got one life, so unless you want to keep doing what you're doing now for the rest of your life...take action! We manifest our own reality...what will you manifest tomorrow?
