We can have many addictions but have you ever heard of being addicted to success and personal development?

As per Wikipedia: “Personal development covers activities that improve awareness and identity, develop talents and potential, build human capital and facilitate employability, enhance the quality of life and contribute to the realization of dreams and aspirations” for me personal development is an addiction and progress is my every day drive.

When I finished college and got my first job with one of the biggest pharma companies I was thrilled and excited. Full of dreams and hopes for future I thought that life can’t get any better than this. At that point I had everything that I wanted. I had a great job, made lot of new friends, had great work-life balance, financial stability and plenty of free time in the evening.

I learnt a lot in my first job but after a while I realised that my personal and intellectual development had  stopped. My job wasn’t challenging enough anymore and it was mainly focused on repeating the same activities every single day. My excitement faded away and turn into boredom. I wanted to use my time wisely and spend it on learning new things meeting new people and progressing my career. I couldn’t imagine myself working in the same place and doing the same job every day for 20 or 30 years. It was time to take some action.

I decided to apply for a job that the scope of it was outside of my comfort zone and outside of my skills portfolio but I still went for it. What turn out later it was the best job I had ever had. I worked on a project with new people on something that I had knowledge about but no practical experience.

I was willing to learn and work hard to get myself up to speed very quickly which I did. The best part of this job was the whole learning process. Looking for answers and trying to figure out things for myself to deliver successful outcome.

Finally, I could satisfy my appetite for knowledge and created great conditions for personal development. I was challenged intellectually and learnt new things every single day. I felt happy that I could achieve something more than just going to work every day.

For the whole time working there I was totally outside of my comfort zone. Going outside of my comfort zone was scary and tested my character, skills and my flexibility but the successfully completed project was the best reward for all that effort. Finding myself in new situations helped me to become aware of my strengths and weaknesses.

After few years working within the industry I realised how much progress I made comparing to my friends who I met in my first job. Most of them stuck in the same job for years, doing the same thing every day and not really learning anything new.

My friends are still on the same salary but the main thing is that they don’t feel excited about their jobs, they lost passion to what they do and they do it only because they have to. Even though they are not happy with their life, job and money they still doing it. They accepted all the things in their life they are not happy about without putting up a fight. Without trying to change anything.

By doing science in college it doesn’t mean that you and I can’t be online marketers or yoga teachers today.

Personal development brings freedom with choosing what you want to learn, how you want to progress your career and what you want to do in life. Through the learning process and meeting new people, searching for answers you and I can discover what we are truly passionate about. Sometimes takes months or years to find out what is it but without passion there is no success.

Being addicted to personal development increased my expertise, my knowledge and of course my value. Companies and customers are willing to pay more to be able to learn from you and from your experience. Personal development it is like fuel for people who expect a lot from themselves and when it is combined with hard work will get you higher salary too.

What attracts me to a personal development is progress. Progress makes me excited, motivates to get up every morning and go after my goals.

Picking up fruits of personal development and what you have learnt through your life boost self-confidence, and empower self-believe. Gives courage to follow your dreams as what you learn today you will use tomorrow to get a step closer to what you really want from life.

Personal development is a process of becoming a better version of myself through learning and experiencing something new every single day.

Have you discovered what your life purpose is? Do you know which direction to take to get you where you want to be?
