Pant and Samson lead Daredevils over Lions

Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson put on a magnificent 143 in ten overs to lead the Delhi Daredevils to a seven-wicket victory with 15 balls to spare as they successfully chased  208 set by the Gujarat Lions in the 42nd match of the 2017 Indian Premier League season at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.

.The two youngsters came together in the in the 3rd over when Karun Nair got an attempted ramp shot off Pradeep Sangwan all wrong and was caught by Dinesh Karthik with the score on 24.Pant was merciless hammering six fours and an amazing nine sixes in a fantastic 43 ball 97 achieving a strike rate of 225. Samson was just slightly more sedate launching seven sixes into low earth orbit in an entertaining 31 ball 61

Always conscious of the run rate required Samson perished trying to smash Ravindra Jadeja over long-on but the ball spun more than he expected and James Faulkner ran in from long off to take the catch. In the next over Pant who had batted with class exhibiting great power and deft touch edged a full delivery from Basil Thampi to Karthik and was gone three short of a ton.

With five and a half overs left and 30 runs needed Shreyas Iyer and Corey Anderson wasted no time they both blasted two sixes each allowing Delhi to cruise to victory and an incredible 214/3  in 17.3 overs.

Inserted to bat after losing the toss Gujarat lost Brendon Mc Cullum and Dwayne Smith with only ten on the board before the end of the second over. Skipper Suresh Raina then found a willing ally in Karthik and they proceeded to plunder the bowling for 133 runs in twelve overs. Raina was back in excellent form carving five boundaries and four sixes in a 43 ball 77 before he was run out by Kagiso Rabada. Karthik played a very good hand smashing five fours and five sixes in a 34 ball 65 then was brilliantly caught by Anderson when he mistimed a slower Pat Cummins ball and his loft gained more height than distance. Aaron Finch blasted four boundaries scoring 27 and Jadeja added 18 enabling the Lions to reach what seemed like a good enough 208/7.
