Tripathi carries Supergiants over KKR

Rahul Tripathi was almost a one man army putting the Royal Pune Supergiant on his shoulder and carrying them to a four-wicket win over the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 40th match of the 2017 IPL season at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Chasing 155 set by KKR after they were sent in Pune had an early setback losing Ajinkya Rahane in the second over with only eleven runs on the board. While almost all other batsmen struggled to score, Tripathi was fluent from the inception. Together with skipper Steve Smith, he added 48 of which Smith contributed nine. That pattern would endure for the rest of the innings. Ben Stokes was the only other Supergiants batsman reached double figures scoring 14.Tripathi clobbered all bowlers but was especially severe on Kuldeep Yadav, the aggressive right-hander compiled a brilliant 93 scored from 52 balls decorated with nine boundaries and seven sixes opening the innings and batting until the 19th over.. David Christian clobbered the second ball bowled by Colin de Grandhomme for six taking Pune over the finish line with four balls to spare. Chris Woakes had the best bowling figures for KKR taking 3/18, Umesh Yadav and Sunil Narine took one wicket for 18 and 28 respectively.

KKR lost Narine with the last ball of the first over for a duck, a steady flow of wickets continued and no significant partnerships were achieved. Manoj Pandey struck four boundaries and a six to lead KKR with a 32 ball 37 de Grandhomme blasted two sixes and three fours in a 19 ball 36 Suryakumar Yadav scored 30 from 16 with two fours and two sixes. Jaydev Unadkat grabbed 2/28 from four overs and teenager Washington Sundar took 2/18 from two overs aiding in holding KKR 155/8.
