What Do You Think Freedom is?

"I know but one freedom and that is the freedom of the mind." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery (1900 - 1944), French Writer and Author of 'The Little Prince'

We speak of freedom, believe in freedom, rejoice in the notion of freedom, dream about freedom, lecture, promote, and hope for freedom, but what do you think freedom is?

I feel there is an excellent value in recognising different perspectives about freedom.

It comes from your point of view and is shaped by your life experiences, values, your current state of mind, the expectations you bring into a situation, and a whole lot of other things.

For me, freedom is the ability to determine my overall direction in life.

I was motivated to change my circumstances from my early experiences of my life. While I was growing up, I didn't agree with the societal rules or the traditional ways that things were imposed in the past, and any other options that restricted my choices or limited my future decisions.

But now, for me is more than that. I want to take my freedom to the next level. I want to challenge myself and value personal growth and learning.

Freedom is the key to why I have taken this journey to take charge of my destiny.

I am a firm believer in women being financially independent, but I never liked the idea of being part of a corporate routine and being accountable to anyone else. An even though, I had to work part-time when my children were growing up, those demanding schedules were a reason why the traditional working model didn't fit into my life.

In seeking out areas of personal freedom, I found that self-growth is high on my list. I am now more aware than ever that if I want to evolve as a person and achieve success; personal development is crucial and it is a lifelong process that never ends.

I had to step out of my comfort zone, and it has helped me to understand myself better.

Thanks to self-development I have been changing my life for the better by improving my knowledge, skills, and views.

I genuinely enjoy, and I am honoured when I get to spend time with my mentors who support me and encourage me to manage my learning, help me to develop my skills and improve my performance. Mentoring is a dynamic personal development and empowerment tool.

Self-help has also shown me the power to make a positive change no matter how big or small to help others and to make the world a better place.

I know I am not alone in the pursuit of creative independence. Most people are attracted to the ideas of creating more freedom in their lives. They want the ability to make their own choices and determine how they live their lives. They choose to value freedom more than money, possessions, or even the perceived security of a traditional career.

This desire for freedom is what takes someone from a comfortable life to one of uneasiness, but much more fulfilling life.

I think that most of us want the freedom to create, to make something meaningful. The freedom that we achieve allows us to move to higher planes of mission and purpose.

So if you’re trying to create more freedom for yourself, I think it’s good to ask… what happens when you get it? What comes next?

Freedom is the opportunity to choose our future, but choose we must.

So, what do you prefer to do with your freedom? Do you care enough to win?
