A SPIRIT OF FEAR OR OF LOVE

undefined

_____________________________________________________________

It’s our choice; we can love or we can embrace the spirit of fear by believing the narrative of our ego-mind which loves to wallow in the toxicity of the media’s lies while accepting the dubious power-grab of the ‘authorities.’ If we doing so, we forfeit our love, and the power a sound mind.

Is it worth it? Of course not. We can be aware of danger without becoming fearful by doing whatever we need to do to avoid harm. That's pro-active. But fear is surrender. That's how we become manipulated. So why do we fall for it?

It's because fear is the primary expression of our ego. In fact, it is the ego! It doesn’t believe in love, trust, benevolence, and so it's not of ‘a sound mind.’ How can it be? The ego-mind is insane. That’s why, when we allow our collective psyche to be controlled by fear; our rational faculties become paralysed, our consciousness goes into free fall, and our physical immunity becomes compromised.

And, of course, that’s what the ‘spirit of fear,’ in its perversity wants. Unfortunately, that's what we're born into. That’s why so many in our world willingly give away their power to those who wish to take it if they can. All in the name of ‘safety.’ Convenient; is it not?

And thereby we forfeit our power and having a sound mind. If we wake up to what's happening within and without and choose not to identify with it, we rise above the collective madness. That's a sound mind.

If we don't... well; that's insane.

Below are a few excerpts on topics of fear, love, power and a sound mind taken from the first two Elysium’s Passage books.

Elysium’s Passage: The Ascent

'Now, however, you're moving towards a new extreme. After being held hostage to the fears of the Lowlands; you will soon find yourself standing tall on your Summit as a conqueror. Yet to truly conquer, you still have a formidable foe to face. Always remember James, Vincit Qui Se Vincit; He Conquers Who Conquers Himself. Yet it is not you, only your fears, so don't just conquer them – slay them!

'But there's only one way to do that,' he said. 'And best of all, it means you need not do anything except to allow love, not fear, into your life. In the words of Virgil, Omnia Vincit Amor; Love Conquers All![1] Allow the light of your heart to dispel the darkness of your ego-fear; this illusion will continue to die as you permit it to love. Fear cannot exist in love any more than darkness can exist in the light.'

'Only light and truth exist where unconditional love prevails', Mo said. 'Whenever you fear, you already sense how it contrasts with feelings of love. It should tell you how much you don't want to tolerate the toxic emotions of fear. That's evident, but few on earth seem to make the connection.

'Through all dimensions, Source emanates the energy of love, just as we spoke of regarding the Ray of Creation, from the highest celestial realms to angels, humans, amoeba, rocks and all that is.'

'Then you must understand there's nothing in the universe more mysterious than love, he said, since it emanates directly from the infinite Source: the fount of all that is. Love can't be taught, yet it can be recognised in relationships. It's never contained but contains. As I often say, it's the very glue of the universe, the unity we all desire. Only light and truth exist where unconditional love prevails.

‘Whenever you fear, you already sense how much it contrasts with feelings of love. It should tell you how much you don't want to tolerate dark feelings.’

Elysium’s Passage: The Summit

'And in becoming whole,' he said, 'the world can transmute its twisted thoughts of hate to love, falsehoods to truth and darkness to light. Nothing can exist outside of divine thought other than in varying degrees of illusion and insanity. No matter what, no soul can forever remain lost to God, only to itself, because every soul remains a thought in the Mind of God.

'In fact, it can't be otherwise because thought can never leave its source, only quickened. Eventually, all reunite with the God the Source. But then again, we never left; we just thought we did when we forgot who we were. Though you were never lost to God, God may have been lost to you. Yet there was nothing to be lost or found other than your Self.'

‘To take this one step further, if I may,’ Mo said, ‘what one chooses to willfully think about leads to happiness or unhappiness since all thoughts exist on the continuum between light and darkness: love and fear. The old Proverb states: as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.’[2]

'By inference, I would add as a man thinketh, so becomes his reality, be it happy or unhappy. That's why it states what he thinks in his heart, not what he thinks in his brain since it’s the heart that brings truth to the mind.’

I’ve included a few quotes on this topic of love, wisdom and power by 17th century Emanuel Swedenborg’s (Swedish scientist, philosopher and seer)

Such as the love is, such is the wisdom; consequently, such is the man.

Love in its essence is spiritual fire.

Man knows that there is love, but he does not know what love is.

Love comes into being through useful service to others.

We do need to realise, though, that it is the quality of our love that determines the quality of this life.

Love comes into being through useful service to others.

Love consists in desiring to give what is our own to another and feeling his delight as our own.

The activity of love and faith is what makes heaven.

A life of faith without love is like sunlight without warmth—the type of light that occurs in winter, when nothing grows and everything droops and dies. Faith rising out of love, on the contrary, is like light from the sun in spring, when everything grows and flourishes.

For every man’s soul is in a spiritual body after it has cast off the material coverings which it carried about in the world.

Goodness and love mould the form into their own image and cause the joy and beauty of love to shine forth from every part of the face.

A WORLD WITHIN

undefined

How often do we feel that there must be something more to life than what this world has to offer? When we create high expectations for something or someone, we often end up feeling let-down and empty. It may be a new car, house, relationship, exotic vacation or something else we thought would make us happy. But after the thrill wears off, we’re back to looking for something else we hope will fill the void.

Or, it might just be that life, in general, disappoints us when we assume outward things will bring us fulfilment. As we get older, we might feel increasingly disillusioned with life as health and opportunities slip away as regret take over. We thought there would be more, but there wasn't. And now we're alone.

So, what’s at the root of our disenchantment with life. It seems we all feel this way at times. And maybe it's not a bad thing. What if it's a call for us to wake up to become aware of what we've neglected so we might discover what's real.

C.S. Lewis was a brilliant scholar and this is a brilliant quote he left us with. But I'd like to go a bit deeper and explore what's lies below this longing and some ideas on how we might find spiritual fulfilment in our lives.

To this end, I have included a short excerpt from Elysium’s Passage: The Ascent (yet unpublished), that might help us understand what's going on, for better or worse. What this brief dialogue is saying is that we, as humans, are built for far more than what we're often conscious of.

Since our ego-mind remains externally focused, it can never satisfy the deepest spiritual longings. Only when we are unified with the divine portal of our heart, can we transcend outward emptiness to find who and what we truly are as fullhearted conscious beings, each created to fulfil our divine purpose in life.

Though these few paragraphs below are far from comprehensive, they speak to how life is essentially spiritual, not material. As the ancient Hermetic code states: "As within, so without. As above, so below."

‘Though you may not realize it, James,’ Mo said, ‘but the constraints of your empirical focus will fall away as soon as you learn to reconcile your heart with your mind. As we’ve said, and will keep saying, the heart is the spirit's divine portal to higher consciousness.

‘Therefore, if you are ever to come into a fuller of understanding of existence, it is necessary for you to subordinate your mind to the heart’s inner wisdom. I don’t mean displace your mind, just get it under control. The ego-mind is always externally focused, separating itself from the wisdom of the heart, the centre of your being. That’s why few can see the implicit unity of the universe, and fewer yet care.

‘That's why much of humanity only hear the meaningless clatter of whatever intrudes into their lives, never acting intentionally, only reacting to outward circumstances. It's why the mind needs to remain united with the heart and its wisdom, or it soon loses itself to all the worthless distractions of the ego.

We are built for living in the gratitude of love, peace and happiness and relationships.

I'll conclude this message with a quote from Saint Augustine, “Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee.”

And I might add, Thee, almost means me... and you. We are the divine essence of God. Let's live like it... One with the fullness of who we are, "as within, so without."

THE SOUNDS OF SILENCE

undefined

The following is a short excerpt from My Island Paradise, Chapter One of the yet unpublished, Elysium's Passage: Surreal Adventures, fourth in a series of seven pending novels

It is a time of quiet reflection the protagonist James has after a lengthy time of inward struggle. He is at please with himself now, and in his silent peaceful contemplation, his universe seems to have surrendered. The following paragraphs represent some of his reflections.

As I write this, I wish I could say that the dragon had been slain that night, but it wasn’t… not completely. After all, the ego’s illusory existence is a function of one’s consciousness, and sometimes we forget who we are. At least I can say the dragon’s presence was significantly diminished, even though it might at times still sneak up from behind. However, if I remain vigilant, I can generally squelch its flames before it breathes.

I sat under my Bodhi tree much of the next day, watching the breakers crash onto the beach while listening to the chirping of the multi-florescent birds perched in the trees. Yes, I thought; finally, I’m at peace with my life and my world. I felt my heart was in charge now, redirecting my mind from fear to love, from reason to wisdom, and most importantly, to new life.

Rather than being subservient to the ego imposter that had undermined me for so long with its contrived fears, my divine Self, the real me, would inspire my thoughts. Yet, I realized this might still be a long transition once I returned home. Somehow, I’d have to find a way to gain control of my ego-mind by discovering who I was. But how?

I thought of how Eli used to tell me to be a fly on the wall observing myself, especially when my ego was creating trouble for me. If I could remember this mental exercise, it might help me understand what my ego was trying to do to me by what it said and did. By being aware of it, I had the choice to refuse to identify with it, thereby giving me power over it. Then the real I, the pure I of consciousness, sans ego, would be able to transcend the petulant illusions that preempted my real identity as the divine Self.

In-as-much as I could remember this when I returned home, I would be free of it so that it no longer could dictate what I thought and felt. Of course, learning to detach from the ego by not identifying with it would require much practise and discipline since illusions continue to thrive endlessly on earth, without question or resistance.[1] Furthermore, I realized I would be severely tested and tempered in the crucible of life, both within and without. But then, isn’t that what grit and grind of our world are all about?

Yet, I wished to believe no matter what happened; the fall guy would one day discover the silent tranquillity I was now experiencing. Otherwise, what would the point have been for this out-of-body exercise? I then thought of something Mo quoted to me from a renowned Jewish mystic and philosopher: Solitude is the place of purification.[2] I would have to find a way to make that my experience, especially if I wished to maintain what I had searched for all my life and had finally found. I wasn’t sure how this might happen unless an angel came to remind me. Perhaps Julianne would be my angel... a most pleasant thought to consider.

As I strolled along the beach later in the day, I thought about how I had wronged others in the past. Without doubt, this was the most important lesson I learned on this island, and probably the most difficult. Forgiveness was my big issue - not something I often did willingly.

When I first came to the island, my friends suggested there was an essential purpose for my being here, even though I didn’t fully understand what that might entail. But now, during these last days, I realized it was about learning how to forgive. Everything I fought against on the beach, was a hideous creature that I had conjured by refusing to forgive the world.

That was quite the revelation. I realized now my true identity was my divine Self and not that of the old ego-self. Not that I was a Buddha, but then, I wasn’t Gilligan either.

When I arrived back at my hut, I sat down and thought about my remaining time in this realm of spiritual existence. Regardless of what was yet to come, at least I would be able to move forward in confidence, knowing that whatever fears had held me back would no longer be able to do so. At least not if I didn’t allow them.

After examining my life as perhaps few men ever have, I came away from the ordeal to discover my true Self. I recalled how frustrated I was when Mo asked me to examine myself during those early days on the Summit. I now understood his relentlessness was so I might one day find myself. However, first, I had to discover who I wasn’t.

I smiled, when I thought of how he would quote Socrates: The unexamined life is not worth living. I turned this around and declared aloud to myself: ‘This examined life shall be worth living… and hereinafter, shall I so live!’

I then saw a caterpillar on my tree. I too had been a caterpillar, I thought, that had remained in a cocoon for far too long, awaiting my metamorphosis into a free and beautiful butterfly. Today, I finally had become the butterfly enfolded within.

But one day, and it may be soon, I would again have to return to my cocoon in the fall guy. Through him, I would complete my transition while integrating whatever spiritual gains I made here in preparation for my ultimate metamorphosis into Elysium’s rarified realm of existence.

Who else gets to do that? And of all people… why me?

[1] What I’ve said here expresses one of the primary teachings of G.I. Gurdjieff. He uses the word it when speaking of the ego-self because it is not you, but a distortion of your divine Self. Also, Peter Rhodes book, Aim: The Workbook, excels in examining these concepts while making practical applications. He quotes extensively from Gurdjieff in conjunction with certain writings from Swedenborg.

MAN IS WHAT HE BELIEVES

undefined

Fear is the predominant emotion of all who remain stuck in the maelstrom of negativity within the belief structure of mass consciousness. We fear everything; the future, scarcity, sickness, and death. It is the most direct and obvious manifestation of the ego; our greatest enemy, the complete opposite of love. When we fear; we criticize, judge, and lash out in anger and frustration, thereby creating an even greater, stronger thought-form of negativity and fear around us.

In this state, we descend into poor, disillusioned souls, creating an even stronger, ever-expanding vortex of negativity around ourselves and our loved ones, thereby drawing those things we fear the most. We become caught in a web of self-fulfilling prophecy that reinforces these beliefs, keeping us shackled to our illusionary world of suffering, scarcity and chaos.

As Chekov suggests, lies "exchanges heaven for earth." I'll go further and say our egoic fear makes earth into a hell of suffering. Look around you, look at your governments, look at your communities and see what fear has wrought. Indeed, many have accepted the lies of servitude as truth, and so it is. Until we lift our eyes and hearts to the heavens by turning inward for the comfort and spiritual guidance of our Soul Self, we will continue to create the fearful illusions of the ego.

We experience life as our ego experiences when we identify with our ego’s world. The world of me, myself, and I, and all the thoughts that create the story of me. It is a world of illusion, a mental world where we exist as someone with problems, fears, fantasies, desires, and stories about ourselves and others.

This world may seem real but it's imaginary when we engage with the ego voice in our head. That's when we experience an alternative reality full of negative thoughts and emotions. This voice spins an illusion whereby we believe we exist apart from love, without connection to our God Source. In that state we are alone, part of a scary world where we feel imperfect, challenged and unhappy; where we don't experience the essence of life as it unfolds in the present moment.

The ego’s world is not a rational world but an irrational world. The programming behind the ego is primitive. We don't need the voice in our head to tell us what to do, what to think, what we need or what we should want. Furthermore, our frightened voice isn't what keeps us safe, rather, just the opposite. Under its direction, we make very bad decisions, just as we see being made all about us today.

This voice reflects the lowest vibe of what's basest in us, never caring to seek our highest expressions of love. In fact, it knows nothing of love, no more than darkness knows light. Just as darkness is the absence of light, so is the ego. Its expression of fear is love's absence. When we live in fear, as much of the world seems to be doing today, we remain disconnected from our Source and therefore from love. Ego wants safety, security, entertainment, pleasure but provides us with nothing but more fear. Being ego-driven means we don't know who we are because we remain out of touch with our divine nature.

Society has elevated the ego's fears and desires to such a degree that our lives are left with little time or energy for what is truly nourishing and enriching. Perhaps it wasn't this way when people lived closer to nature. But today, many of our fears have become a spiritual disease designed by the ego to reflect the mass psychosis. It's time for humanity to strike out into a higher state, free of fear-based compulsions, aggression and negative emotions.

We need to return to the essence of who we are as divine beings of love, light and truth. In this, we will bring heaven to earth, where fear shall be no more. Is it coming? I think it is. But that’s a topic for another time.

Let me conclude this article with a few paragraphs from the first book in the Elysium's Passage Series:

'Excuse me, gentlemen,' I said, 'but I need to get into the great outdoors for a spell. If you don't mind, see if you can find a couple of pints of bitter for when I get back.'

‘We’ll check to see what we have down there,’ Mo said, ‘but before you go, I want to remind you that these problems you speak of are just symptoms of the general human condition of fear. Even among the most accomplished such as you, there is often guilt and self-loathing that festers cynicism and arrogance.’

‘Are you saying I’m cynical and arrogant?’

‘Since you asked,’ he said ‘allow me to answer your question indirectly, and then you can draw your own conclusions.

‘As I’m sure you’ve witnessed in yourself at times,’ he continued, ‘the ego is a master at creating a persona of arrogance to hide its fear since fear is what the ego is all about. It cares not for love, except to exploit it for its advantage. As we've said, the ego's biggest fear is unconditional love, which vanquishes both fear and the ego, just as the presence of light instantly vanquishes darkness."

‘When you understand this, Eli said, you will understand why humanity continues to identify with failure and victimhood. Whenever the inward light becomes pre-empted, things go wrong; often very wrong. The ego lashes out in sedition, which explains how...  Chapter 13, The Ascent

SUMMARY OF ELYSIUM'S PASSAGE: THE SUMMIT

undefined

This the first in a series of five Elysium narrations regarding a young British philosopher named James Phillips, who finds himself living in an altered state of reality while still remaining on earth.

After experiencing a near-fatal fall while climbing to the summit of a remote mountain in the Andes, James awakens in a new dimension. He soon encounters two mysterious beings who provide him with a very different perspective on the nature of his existence. Over the next year, before his body recovers from the coma, he is challenged to re-examine his understanding of life’s meaning and purpose far beyond anything he previously believed or could believe.

An engaging and sometime surreal adventure with intimations of impending romance, the narrative explores the most important questions about life, death, reality, and our ultimate destiny.

The Plains of Elysium (Champs-Élysées) was described by Homer, Hesiod, Virgil, and many other poets as the paradisiac afterlife realm reserved for heroes. As the title suggests, this is about a journey through a passage that leads towards Elysium’s exciting realm of existence.
