It all starts with the Mind! Any change you want to undertake in your life first starts as an image in your mind. We tend to blame other people or circumstances in our lives for misfortunes or unhappiness that we experience rather than taking personal responsibility for our own thoughts.

"I haven't been born with a silver spoon in my mouth so how can I achieve any great success?" Sounds familiar? The reality is that your beliefs, your motivation, mood or focus all come from your mind. Your mind flows where your attention goes.

Everything in life is depended on numerous other factors. Whether you are talking about relationships, career or your financial situation. How can you find your dream job when you don't have the option to leave your current one? How can you stop being broke when you are in debt?

But the change has to start somewhere and the first place it can start is in your mind.

A better job starts in your mind.

A better relationship starts in your mind.

Being in a better physical shape starts in your mind.

I love the saying: "The grass isn't greener on the other side, its greener where you water it!"

So what are the steps that we can take? There are really many but few to start with are:

  1. BE AWARE OF YOUR THOUGHTS DAILY

I know that this might sound difficult but it is only practice that takes time, focus and awareness. Start with the simple things, such as when you wake up in the morning make a conscious decision to have a great day. No matter what comes your way, even the situations that might make you mad, you have to remember that you are in charge of your thoughts. It is not what happens to you in life but how you handle it that matters. I often hear people say "ah when you enter the 40s it all goes downhill". With that kind of thinking it will do as you have just instructed your subconscious mind that this is how things are in life. Be aware how you talk to yourself. Our thoughts do create our realities.

2. TAKE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS

We tend to not want to take responsibility especially when things do not pan out how we imagined it to be. It is so much easier to blame someone else or circumstance in your life. The truth is that if you don't believe anything is your fault then you also cannot really take credit for anything else going well in your life. It also means that you cannot choose to change things and that is simply not true. How to fix it? You must learn to accept the possibility of less than perfect outcome. As they say in NLP world "there is no such thing as failure, but only feedback".

3. PRACTICE GRATITUDE DAILY

To be grateful for what we have and say it out loud or quietly in our mind brings our minds to another level of existence. Not only that by doing the gratitude practice do we thank the universe for our blessings and receive more of it in return but also a grateful mind expects more of the good things to come which builds our faith. Your state of mind will change, expand and evolve by saying "thank you" for all the good in your life. Before you go to sleep, count at least 10 things you were grateful for that day. 

I hope you can take at least some of these points and apply them in your life. Remember, you are the master of your ship and captain of your soul.
