Robots Taking Jobs

Modern technology is an amazing thing that has completely revolutionised the world in the relatively short time it has been available. Thanks to the processing power of computers, we are able to do incredible things that many people scarcely thought possible less than 100 years ago. As computers become more advanced, so do the machines they are used to control. We've already seen a strong example of how advanced technology can make a biological workforce obsolete, but most people tend to ignore it as a sign of robots taking jobs in the future. Automation already exists in the modern world, so the question must be asked by nearly everyone: how safe is your career from automation?

Remember The Horse
For the majority of human history, horses were the primary mode of transportation for the common man, whether they were ridden directly or used to pull waggons or carriages. Then mankind discovered the engine, and soon after the automobile was born. At first, no one assumed horses would become obsolete in the wake of such a technological triumph. In fact, automobiles were often ridiculed when they were first introduced, simply the horses, at the time, were the superior and commonplace method of transport. In less than 100 years, that dynamic shifted on its head. Horses are rarely used for any working purpose anymore, and the ones that are workers are not cost-effective for their owners. They became obsolete in a world where no one believed it to be possible. To the horse, cars were robots taking their jobs.

Natural Progress
As technology changes and adapts to the needs of man, society must adapt and change with it. The entire point of technology is to make man's life easier, so there is no reason to fight the progress of science and technology. All it does is open the door to a better future, even if there are some hiccups along the way. Progress has its unfortunate collateral, but that is necessary in order to craft a more perfect system of existence. We've already started to see the impact of automation in the world around us now thanks to robots taking jobs. Grocery store clerks are being exchanged for self-checkout stations. Bank tellers are being replaced by ATMs. These are just a few examples of industries that will suffer job losses as technology morphs, but a tipping point must be reached for a true change to occur.

Economics of Automation
It has been estimated that roughly 45 percent of the current workforce will be automated in the next two decades thanks to robots taking jobs. That means we may experience an unemployment rate of 50 percent within the lifetimes of most people reading this post. We might question how society as we know it could possibly function like that, but that is just the beginning. The change will occur exponentially so we may reach 80 or 90 percent unemployment only 10 years after hitting 50 percent. Something in the system will have to change long before that point is reached, however. With so few people earning money from a job, there will be rampant crime through the unemployed sects of society.

A Future Without Jobs
The future doesn't have to be the bleak wasteland that it might be due to the soaring unemployment rates and robots taking jobs. Society needs to embrace a system that isn't based on money, or one that allows a base income for every citizen without the need for them to perform labour. From this point, we wouldn't have to worry about many of societies main problems, like homelessness, joblessness, hunger, debt, and misfortune. We could automate an entire system that performs exactly what we require, and once it place, it would not require human input in order to function. We could literally create a self-sustaining society if we all worked toward that end. Such a future might have a new economy based on contributions outside of the basic needs taken care of by the system itself.

A future without jobs is certainly possible, but if it is going to happen, there will be a few intermediary steps for humanity to trudge through. You may very well experience a robot stealing your job, in which case you'll need some form of backup income. It's a good idea to search for entrepreneurial initiatives you can take to better prepare yourself for a future in which you may have to fend for yourself in the marketplace. Many experts often stress that the future of business and commerce is going to be totally digital in the very near future. This should be your sign to think about investing heavily into your digital education so that you can effectively face the oncoming tidal wave of robots taking jobs.
