LOOK UP...TO HIM

GENESIS 15:5

And He took him outside and said "Now look toward the heavens, and count the stars, if you are able to count them."  And He said to him, "So shall your descendants be."

Now this bible verse is about Almighty God talking to Abraham about the promise of having a son in his late years and becoming the father of a nation.  God told Abraham to look toward the heavens for the stars and to look at the sandy beach, in order for him to have a clear picture of the future that God had planned for him.

The way that we can apply this principle to our lives here today, is to have a crystal clear picture of what we are aiming to achieve.  We need to be able to close our eyes and see it, smell it, taste it, hear it and feel it.  If we do not have this, then how can we arrive at a destination that we do not have?

I am a little embarassed to admit that I found myself in a cesspit of negativity again yesterday.  Although may be I shouldn't be embarassed because I am human right?  I got to a point where I felt like my head was about to explode.  It was only a moment, but that was the final straw for me.  I decided to watch my favourite motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar, on YouTube.  What a man!  Listening to him, lifted me out of my negative state of mind, because of his amazing skills as an orator.

He reminded me of the importance of clearly defined goals.  He reminded me of the importance of developing and maintaining a positive mindset.  This however, only lifted me temporarily out of my negative state of mind.  What really did the trick for me, was later when I got quiet with myself and searched deep within myself and I just listened.  God very briefly told me what I needed to hear and I got up today with a renewed sense of peace and confidence.  Before getting up, I listened to a podcast from Victoria Osteen, talking about the above bible verse.

I am learning a valuable lesson in focusing my attention on Almighty God and looking up, instead of focusing my attention on the current issues in my life.  I am learning how incredibly important it is to look above the earthly issues and maintain a broader perspective.  I am learning that Almighty God wants me to go to Him, to rely on Him and to trust in Him for everything in my life.

Remember to look up!
