Does your copywriting suck? Here’s one way to fix it.
Don’t panic. It’s going to be ok.
Maybe you are like me - a brand spanking new online business owner, navigating the choppy waters of copywriting, blogging and online advertising?
Navigating… or should I say, trying not to sink…. ahem.
With ZERO experience in anything to do with copywriting, marketing or advertising, I have spent the last week trawling the internet in search of copywriting gold that was going to help me improve my writing.
And hopefully help me to actually enjoy process as well.
Well, a small miracle happened to me this morning when I was on the train to work…
I really believe in the importance of education and learning new skills - I am always getting new content sent to me, which I use my travel time to watch and read.
Well, this video landed in my inbox today!
I LOVE Marie Forleo, and her content is ALWAYS provides tones of value.
In this video, she gives a fantastic tip for improving your written marketing materials and campaigns.
She calls it ‘The Spotlight method’.
When you are sitting down to write your marketing content, it’s really important to be aware if in your writing, the spotlight is on you – or on your client.
The Spotlight = focus and attention.
I know, it’s so easy to talk about ourselves in our writing – it’s much harder to speak to the needs of the people you want to serve. But that is what is needed if you actually want people to click on your stuff!
Did I mention I love this video? In it, Marie introduces and explains the concept of the Spotlight method.
She then walks through some edits to one of her clients’ websites, explaining what she would change, how she would change it and why. It’s such an effective way to learn, watching her walk through the process, and seeing the improvement.
I wanted to share this, because it really can take just a few tweaks to your copy to notice a remarkable improvement! Now that is encouraging!
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the video – comment below!
