MANCHESTER CITY - LIVERPOOL

It's the big-spending Manchester City, at home to the progressive Liverpool this Saturday lunchtime, in the Premier League clash of the weekend.  With City currently positioned in fourth place and Liverpool positioned in second place, even at this early stage of the season, the outcome of the match carries much importance, considering the start to the season Manchester United have made, with their 100% record.

Pep Guardiola, manager of Man City, is under extreme pressure to deliver major silverware this season, as the owners of the club have very high expectations, and considering the amount of money spent on new players in the summer transfer window.  They have made a decent start to the season with two wins and one draw from their first three games, but it doesn't compare to last season when they won their first six games, however finishing the season in third place.

Jurgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool, isn't under the same level of pressure as his counterpart Guardiola, as the Liverpool owners have employed a longer-term approach with regards to silverware.  However, Liverpool's leaky defence continues to be a cause for concern and the media attention towards this aspect, contributes to the pressure on Klopp to solve this issue, if Liverpool are going to be serious contenders for the Premier League title and the Champions League title.

Both managers have fantastic records as managers at their previous clubs, Guardiola at Barcelona and Klopp at Borussia Dortmund.  However, after watching Man City last season, it seemed to me that Guardiola was trying to 're-invent' football, with his unsual formations and playing players out of their usual positions.  He over-complicated a simple game, and it resulted in City under-achieving last season.  He is going to need to simplify things this season, as the main protagonists seem to be their city rivals United this season.  As for Klopp, Liverpool play an exiting brand of football which is very pleasing on the eye, however, with regards to the major trophies as mentioned earlier, he needs to vastly improve the defensive side of the team.

With both teams playing an exiting, attacking brand of football, the game is sure to be an unmissable event, especially considering some of the scorelines from recent seasons.  The game kicks-off at 12.30 hrs British Summer Time, so make sure to be tuned-in.
