WE NEED TO TALK

undefinedWhat is it?

Whatever it might be, it seems something or someone was on my trail. If we allow our imagination, we may see it as an orb from interdimensional space looking for some crazy person to take a picture of it. And yet I don't recall anything whizzing by that day while climbing in the mountains. But let's keep an open mind -- that doesn't mean something wasn't there. Obviously I don't I see what cats and my digital camera see or what dogs might hear.

As a writer, I have an active (hyper-active?) imagination and would like to think my translucent friend is something more than what 'science' can explain away. Though I like to think of myself as a realist that defaults to the simplest and most probable explanation, still I wonder what to do with the wacky world of subatomic physics where the same electron can appear in more than one position at the same time. It's not logical, in fact its irrational, and yet there it is. And it gets even weirder. As physicists HBS Haldane and Sir Aruther Eddington said in their own ways:

The universe is not only stranger/queerer than we imagine, it is stranger/queerer than we can imagine.

If you go to the Quotes post on this blog, you will note the dozens of bizzare things some of the world's greatest phyicists have to say about. As a sampler, take a look at what Niels Bohr (1885 – 1962), receiver of the Nobel Prize in Physics (1922) stated.

Everything we call real is made of things that cannot be regarded as real.

If quantum mechanics hasn’t profoundly shocked you, you haven’t understood it yet.

If anybody says he can think about quantum physics without getting giddy, that only shows he has not understood the first thing about them.

Its not only possible but reasonable to have an appreciation of the world of science and still hold to the mystery that lies beyond it. In fact, Einstein once said that magination is more important than knowledge. He also said the most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. Maybe that's what made him such a genius; he could do both at once.

So can someone help me out with this? Even my skeptical debunker friends -- you know, the engineer types, aren't so sure what natural elements could have caused this. But I'm rather certain it has a natural explanation even if I don't know what it is. Though I may lose myself in fantasy for a while, in the end, my rational philosophical mind prevails... at least most of the time.

Anyway, after I noticed this photo, I didn't pay too much attention to it, assuming this little round thingy was a speck of moisture floating by or somehow got on my lens. Problem was, it wasn't raining or snowing. Maybe I sneezed, but I don't think so. The picture was taken with a digital camera where the shutter only opens when it's turned on.

In fact, I have no idea why I took a picture since there's not much to see. It was a very ordinary mountain scene across from where I was climbing -- nothing much to see as far as mountains go. (Check out my mountain photo posts for something worth looking at.) But for whatever reason, I did take it, although I didn't think much about it at the time. You know how it goes with orbs, you see one, you've seen them all.

Who knows, perhaps my visitor implanted a message and said, "take a picture of me so I can mess with your mind later. But please, no corny jokes about being able to see through me. I can see through you too."

So what was it? Maybe there was something floating by in the air at that moment, and so that's all there was to it. Then again, maybe not. But if not, then what? Any photographers out there that can tell me what you think? The only other logical explanation I have is it was a lens flare resulting from the late afternoon sun being in the picture. Yes, mostly probably that's it.... but then....

And though we all get orbs in our pictures from sun flares, I never had anything quite like this before. If you have, then I'd like to know about it to help solve this little mytery of mine. I don't know, maybe this kind of thing happens all the time. So tell me what you think in the comment section.

Funny thing, but about six or seven years ago, I used to amuse myself by intending orbs to show up when I took pictures. And strangly, it seemed they did -- not always, but often they did.

All kinds of things such as bright flashes of light would show up even when there was no flash going off. I just dismssed them as funny things digital cameras do. Often I got intricate orbs like the ones in the next post called Enlightened. Perhaps most of these are just dust particles in front of the lens but  is it just coincidence this where I often sit to meditate on the couch by the lamp. Maybe, maybe not.

However, I don't know what to think about the one below. Am I the only one, but it seems to throb when I look at it. Optical illusion, I'm sure... I can image all kinds of mystical things in the centre light. Took it randomly in the night sky to see what might happen. Sure wasn't expecting this.

Perhaps seeing these strange ocular phenomena show up all the time is what inspired me to write about orbs in the first chapter of Elysium's Passage (which, believe me, is just as strange).

In any case let me know what you think in the Comments section below. I'd like to hear from you, especially about the first one.

THE SUMMIT is the first in a series of five Elysium’s Passage narrations regarding a young British philosopher named James Phillips who finds himself living in an altered state of reality while still remaining on earth.

After experiencing a near fatal fall while climbing to the summit of a remote mountain in the Andes, James awakens in a new dimension. He soon encounters two mysterious beings who provide him with a very different perspective on the nature of his existence. Over the next year, before his body recovers from the coma, he is challenged to re-examine his understanding about life’s meaning and purpose far beyond anything he previously believed, or could believe.

An engaging and sometime surreal adventure with intimations of impending romance, the narrative explores the most important questions about life, death, reality and our ultimate destiny.

The Plains of Elysium (Champs-Élysées) was described by Homer, Hesiod, Virgil and many other poets as the paradisiac afterlife realm reserved for heroes. As the title suggests, this is about a journey through a passage that leads towards Elysium’s exciting realm of existence.

 READER REVIEWS

The following comments are among the first Amazon reviews of Elysium’s Passage: The Summit. All are Five Stars! Others reader reviews are included below, along with excerpts from two professional reviews. To read full reviews, go to READER REVIEWS on this blog.

"Quietly, gently, and without imposition, the Author unfolds the pages, creating an intricate, interlocking bridge spanning the chasm between mind and heart. Renewing, refreshing, restoring. In my bereavement, it was vigil and light…"

"A delightful mix of fantasy, reality, conjecture and humour; Mr. Meyers draws the reader into the story with a gentle narrative that captures imagination, leaving one anxious to get to the next page drawing you into his exceptional world.”

“Excellently written with an exceedingly deep understanding of this world and the next. The characters are very well written and engaging. I can't wait to complete this book!"

“Takes the reader on both a philosophical and spiritual journey, a journey that at times is both disquieting and tranquil. James, a British Philosopher can be irreverent and caustic, traits that should have left me cringing, but instead made me laugh out loud. Elysium’s Passage is a fun, enlightening and remarkable book.”

“This is a masterful fantasy, becoming a real possibility, as the reader is drawn into the story. The Summit leaves you anxious for the next book in the series, yet also leaves you totally satisfied with the world you have just visited. Genius! An exciting, yet calming, experience that is not to be missed."

"There was hardly a page on which I did not find at least one sentence worthy of hi-lighting for future reference. In addition, I thoroughly enjoyed the main character, James, whose personality and passionate verbal exchanges with the other characters, kept me coming back for more. I am reading the book for a second time while I wait for the next one in this series to be made available."

“N.G. Meyers has clearly put a great deal of research and thought into what the afterlife may look like and I like his perspective. It’s an altogether welcoming and exciting vision. The book gives one a great deal to think about and a reassuring confidence that the end of our lives is truly the beginning of life in the next. I highly recommend it."

“The humour interjected into a serious discussion makes me laugh out loud. Totally unexpected....l may be in the presence of at least a master, if not a genius. A fair ride into reality... seeking that which is unseen, yet absolutely real.”

“An engaging story of adventure embracing man's deepest desire to search for meaning and purpose, N.G. Meyers takes the reader on an adventurous thought provoking journey. This book has substance. It is a perfect blend of adventure and fantasy combined with spiritual philosophy. It ignited my imagination. The author magically weaves a good story laced with wit and humor together with deep philosophical wisdom. This book has it all!”

“An evolution in thought is triggered by many fresh philosophical themes which could inspire readers to re-think their reality and former ideologies that have dictated their lives… the author fires readers’ imaginations to view what could be possible when spirit vacates the body.”

“This is the book spiritual seekers have been waiting for. For me, it granted a great read as well as increased inspiration to live every day with a heightened sense of purpose. I highly recommend it.

“The Summit is capable of hooking readers and luring them to search for Book 2 to discover more about Dr. Philip’s surreal trek into the mysterious unknown universe. This thick book is well worth the read and to share…”

“Mind-blowing statements and speculation (‘…everyone is a non-physical thought form conceived in the Mind of God, preserved for all eternity because God’s thoughts never die…’). Many will find Meyers’ journey up the Mountain intriguing—and possibly even life-changing.” (BLUEINK REVIEW)

“In its effort to grapple with fundamental questions about the meaning of life, it raises questions that have echoed throughout the ages, including about where we come from, where we are going, who we are.”  (CLARION REVIEW)
