WOW! ... this should be provocative, if not controversial! Good! So get ready for MYSTICAL ROMANCE, Book 5 of the ELYSIUM' PASSAGE novel series -- a unique exploration of Eros-Spiritual love in a romantic plot of high intrigue. Should be out by next year sometime after SURREAL ADVENTURES (Book 4) is published. But first, everyone needs to read the first three books. THE ASCENT, THE SUMMIT and QUANTUM LEAPS, soon to be published.

Before delving into this sensational topic, I have included several quotes from Lebo Grand., the author of SENSUAL LIFESTYLE.

It seems his advice is directed towards women in particular. Perhaps some feminists may not like what he has to say, but then, maybe they do. What do I know?

Grand is way out of my league (and expertise) on this, but if nothing else, his quotes certainly are thought-provoking. I'm sure what he has to say below in these quotes would make for a great discussion between men and women... not sure how much agreement there might be on these!

Again, after these carefully selected quotes, I will comment with some staid 'philosophical' thoughts on this 'hot' topic.

"Much of the following advice is meant for sensual ladies: Don't be afraid to be your most gorgeous self or to look sexy. Yes, it will give you an unfair advantage, but what's really important is that it will teach you the art of living a sensual lifestyle, an art without which life (and love) would be utterly boring if not depressing.”

“Being a goddess is a divine calling for women of substance.”

"A woman who is in touch with her sensuality subliminally empowers her man to prosper, flourish and truly live a happy life. She does not know it, but she is a huge catalyst to his fulfilment. But those who suppress their own sensuality whether consciously or unconsciously make it difficult for their men to find the motivation they need to succeed, and thus be fulfilled.”

“The mystery of a woman lies in her sensuality”

“When a woman is really in touch with her sensuality, she naturally draws beautiful things, people, and deeply nourishing relationships into her life.”

“Energy doesn't lie, what you attract is who you are.”

“Mediocre love is for those who deny themselves the depth of emotion, the key to which is sensuality.”

“Relationships fail not because we have stopped loving but primarily because we have stopped living seductively.”

“Every man inherently wants to idolize his woman. It irks us whenever we find you regular rather than enchanting.”

“The ultimate way to become the best version of yourself is to get so in touch with your own sensuality that you make life seem effortless and utterly beautiful all at the same time.”

“Don’t lose yourself in a man, that’ll make you lose your pizzazz indefinitely. Instead, lose yourself in your own sensuality and you’ll forever enchant him.”

"Practicing the art of sensual living daily is the process of rewiring your brain to always be connected to joy and not anxiety.”

“A truly sensual woman is the kind of woman only a man with a deep soul can intoxicate and satiate.”

“How deep and passionate your relationship will grow will depend on how in touch you are with your own sensuality.”

“By the way, the future is not feminine anymore. It is sensual. It is sensual women (and men) who will enjoy the good of the land or the best of the world.”

Sensuality! That's one hot topic.

But what is sensuality? Is it the same as erotic sexuality, or is there more to it? What synonyms are sometimes used to describe it… lewd, lustful, lascivious, salacious, libidinous, sinful? I’m sure there are many other terms.

Well, whatever it is, I think we can all agree that sensuality is what quickens our spirits to make us feel more joyfully alive, if not guilty. But why shouldn't we be encouraged to be more sensual in life if these feelings make our lives more exciting? Perhaps we need to lighten up and allow our instincts to carry us towards new heightened states of sensuality.

This notion, I believe, is supported by what William Butler Yeats, the Irish poet, wrote: “the world is full of magical things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.”

undefinedThe question is, then, how can our senses grow sharper if we don’t allow ourselves to be more sensual. Yet it seems much of culture and religion has discouraged and distrusted sensuality, even if it is a natural expression of our humanity. I suppose society fears that it cannot remain stable, staid and predictable if sensuality is allowed to get out of hand. This is where imposing guilt and fear come in handy. But does sensuality necessarily lead to moral anarchy? I’m sure it can… but is this necessarily so?

Obviously, the big concern with unbridled sexual sensuality is that it will compromise the fabric of society with licentious promiscuity and infidelity. It is said that this is what brought the fall of the Roman Empire. If so, then what can be done to control our sensuality, yet allow the human spirit’s yearning for all the ‘magical things’ that await us, as Yeats suggests?

But wait in a minute… isn’t sensuality about more than sexuality? I don’t know, maybe it’s wanton pornography that gives sensuality a bad rap. But what about our indulgence in certain delectable foods and exquisite wines and spirits we take such delight in consuming? Aren’t they, in their own way, also sensual?  We might also consider those exhilarating eureka moments of discovery when learning something new. Does this not also have a sensual excitement to it? Maybe that’s why we sometimes are passionate about learning. I know I am when it’s something I enjoy

Or to take this even further, what about spirituality and sensuality. To me, it seems they go together. For example, the sublimated sexual ecstasy of that the Buddhist monk experiences is claimed to be a very sensual experience while enraptured in their 'nirvana.’

To understand sensuality better, perhaps it is helpful to recognize it’s our desire to achieve union with whatever it is that we desire. In the few examples identified above this obviously involves sex, but also food, drink, discovery and even God, or should I say, especially God.

For example, this quote by CS Lewis expresses our mystical desire to be in union with beauty in whatever form it may be expressed such as with music, nature, literature or anything else we might regard as being beautiful. In fact, all the various forms of art, in as much as they move us, are sensual in nature.

We might assume, therefore, that an artist must be in touch with their sundefinedensuality in order to give expression to this transcendence of their most inward being. This is why a truthful artist is able to awaken our latent passions to embrace and meld with beauty. Maybe that’s why it is said by some romantics that God created beautiful sunrises and sunsets. It’s more than just light refraction, but a divine statement, as is all creation.’

Whatever else sensuality might be, it leads us to a heightened state of consciousness. The question is; what can be done to encourage our natural sensuality while at the same time keeping it under control. Religious orders have traditionally sought to control sensuality by encouraging asceticism, often denying sensuality with required oaths of celibacy and poverty while subjecting themselves to harsh living conditions.

In some orders, denial was viewed as an ideal, providing evidence of our suffering as devotion to God, even going as far as self-flagellation. I’m not sure why anyone would assume God should be impressed with sacrificing the very sensual pleasures ‘He’ bestowed upon humanity.

In I Corinthians 9 of the New Testament, Apostle Paul states that he subdues the body to make it his slave with the same discipline as a competing athlete.

Do you not know that all the runners in a stadium compete, but only one receives the prize? So run to win.  Each competitor must exercise self-control in everything. They do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one. So I do not run uncertainly or box like one who hits only air. Instead, I subdue my body and make it my slave, so that after preaching to others I myself will not be disqualified.”

Of course, self-discipline is an admirable quality that can be very empowering, but it need not mean stifling our sensuality unless we want it to. I suppose it depends on the context of the situation and whether we control our sensuality or if it controls us.

To have a deeper spiritual/psychological appreciation of what it means to manage and control our sensuality, it might be helpful to recognize that we are beings that function within the dynamic of heart and mind… the emotional and the analytical. This is why we need to balance our life by balancing what ‘feels good’ to the heart and what the mind inhibits.

The heart represents the source of love and it is out of this essence that sensuality emerges… sometimes in the power and fury that leads to sexual climax. This is why the heart needs to remain anchored to the rational capacities of the mind. For example, it’s never a good thing for a man to come on his neighbour’s wife just because he’s overwhelmed by the sensuality she exudes. However, if the wisdom of the mind is engaged, one might avoid the consequent pain of unbridled indulgences.

On the other hand, the mind’s fear of sensuality might require the heart to animate the spirit. This is a major theme in my Elysium’s Passage novel series, which is why I keep emphasizing why it’s important that we remain centred, not in just the domain of either our heart or mind, but in the union of both aspects.  Only then can we function in the wholeness of our intended humanity. This we call the divine SELF, a concept I deal with in the post-call WHO ARE YOU?

I’m not sure, but maybe that’s what Lebo Grand was trying to try to say in these quotes. Speaking of which, I’ll include more of his quotes below for those who are interested.

“The real reason why any man becomes a gentleman is because of a woman who is truly in touch with her own sensuality. She is the inspiration behind all his efforts.”

“Chances are, you won't find the right love until you find the lifestyle you love.”

“When you see a man struggling financially, usually it's because he simply lacks a perfect muse.”

“Reading between the lines is a lifelong quest of a truly sensual woman. Her ability to pick up what isn't being said is the key to her mystery and wisdom.”

“Only sensual women can reignite men’s creativity and fire. They can increase their will to work hard and reach their fullest potential.”

“I’d rather discover my sensuality before I find love because it is through understanding my own sensuality that I can learn how to love someone else with the same authenticity and immeasurable depth as I love myself.”

“If you can't get a quality man, then you're probably not in touch with your feminine side. Remember, your femininity has a divine mandate to hook you up.”

“Women who have learned how to always be in touch with their sensuality can't help but attract at the highest vibrational level than those who have not. In fact, that becomes their default setting. They are a perfect representation of the "early birds catches the fattest worm" adage.”

“Commitment isn't scary; wasting years of my life with someone who isn't in touch with their own sensuality is.”

"I DON’T LOOK FOR INTELLIGENCE IN A PERSON, I LOOK FOR SOUL, DEPTH, PASSION, VULNERABILITY AND SENSUALITY. All these equate to AUTHENTICITY to me. So, yes, I’m probably snobbish too, I judge a person on how I feel about their authenticity.”

“People fear sensuality simply because they don't know its actual purpose. But, please, don't be ignorant my friend: Sensuality was NOT intended to make life sinful, but rather beautiful, rich and delicious.”

“Sensuality is the hustle to always be at the leading edge of your glamour and enchantment.”

“Ladies, your sensuality is the only key to not only attracting your ideal man but to also unlocking in him the best treasures no one has ever told you anything about.”

“Haunted by the longing to feel something real, deep and magical; I searched for a shared ecstasy... that's when you came along.”

“True sensuality is classy.”

“Sensuality us how we express our depth. The deeper we meet ourselves, the more sensual we become.”

“It is by aligning with our own sensuality that we can find true fulfilment in our relationships. Love works when sensuality works.”

“You were given your sensuality for the joy you may give in return.”

“Those who don't believe in sensuality will never experience the glamour of life.”

“When we are both in touch with our own sensuality, the experience is ah-mazing because the deep in me calls out for the deep in you, leading to a harmonic dance of passion.”

“The world is a very stressful place to live in, and your sensuality is the key to making your unearthly experience a little bit of heaven.”

“Sensuality is essentially our souls speaking on our behalf, articulating and expressing our deepest desires.”

“The more you get in touch with your sensuality, the more you release your man's potential to treat you like a queen.”

“Ladies, the best gift you can bring into a new relationship (or give to yourself) is your ultimate commitment to your own sensual growth, or should I say GLOW.”

“Find someone who will love your sensuality more than your body.”

“A deep connection is a level where you are operating at your highest sensual frequency.”

The Elysium Passage series involves five novels about a young British philosopher named James Phillips who finds himself living in an altered state of reality while still remaining on earth.

After experiencing a near-fatal fall while climbing to the summit of a remote mountain in the Andes, James awakens in a new dimension. He soon encounters two mysterious beings who provide him with a very different perspective on the nature of his existence. Over the next year, before his body recovers from the coma, he is challenged to re-examine his understanding of life’s meaning and purpose far beyond anything he previously believed or could believe.

An engaging and sometimes surreal adventure with intimations of impending romance, the narrative explores the most important questions about life, death, reality and our ultimate destiny.

The Plains of Elysium (Champs-Élysées) was described by Homer, Hesiod, Virgil and many other poets as the paradisiac afterlife realm reserved for heroes. As the title suggests, this is about a journey through a passage that leads towards Elysium’s exciting realm of existence.

"A delightful mix of fantasy, reality, conjecture and humour; Mr. Meyers draws the reader into the story with a gentle narrative that captures imagination, leaving one anxious to get to the next page drawing you into his exceptional world.”

"Quietly, gently, and without imposition, the Author unfolds the pages, creating an intricate, interlocking bridge spanning the chasm between mind and heart. Renewing, refreshing, restoring. In my bereavement, it was vigil and light…"

“Excellently written with an exceedingly deep understanding of this world and the next. The characters are very well written and engaging that takes the reader on both a philosophical and spiritual journey, a journey that at times is both disquieting and tranquil. James, a British Philosopher can be irreverent and caustic, traits that should have left me cringing, but instead made me laugh out loud. Elysium’s Passage is a fun, enlightening and remarkable book.”

“This is a masterful fantasy, becoming a real possibility, as the reader is drawn into the story. The Summit leaves you anxious for the next book in the series, yet also leaves you totally satisfied with the world you have just visited. Genius! An exciting, yet calming, experience that is not to be missed."

"There was hardly a page on which I did not find at least one sentence worthy of hi-lighting for future reference. In addition, I thoroughly enjoyed the main character, James, whose personality and passionate verbal exchanges with the other characters, kept me coming back for more. I am reading the book for a second time while I wait for the next one in this series to be made available."

“N.G. Meyers has clearly put a great deal of research and thought into what the afterlife may look like and I like his perspective. It’s an altogether welcoming and exciting vision. The book gives one a great deal to think about and a reassuring confidence that the end of our lives is truly the beginning of life in the next. I highly recommend it."

"I am really enjoying your book, it’s fantastic! It is so incredible and diversified that I can’t really explain it other people, so what I say is just read this book. Thank you so much for the blessings that you’ve given the world!"

“The humour interjected into a serious discussion makes me laugh out loud. Totally unexpected....l may be in the presence of at least a master, if not a genius. A fair ride into reality... seeking that which is unseen, yet absolutely real.”

“An engaging story of adventure embracing man's deepest desire to search for meaning and purpose, N.G. Meyers takes the reader on an adventurous thought-provoking journey. This book has substance. It is a perfect blend of adventure and fantasy combined with spiritual philosophy. It ignited my imagination. The author magically weaves a good story laced with wit and humour together with deep philosophical wisdom. This book has it all!”

“An evolution in thought is triggered by many fresh philosophical themes which could inspire readers to re-think their reality and former ideologies that have dictated their lives… the author fires readers’ imaginations to view what could be possible when spirit vacates the body.”

“This is the book spiritual seekers have been waiting for. For me, it granted a great read as well as increased inspiration to live every day with a heightened sense of purpose. I highly recommend it.

“The Summit is capable of hooking readers and luring them to search for Book 2 to discover more about Dr Philip’s surreal trek into the mysterious unknown universe. This thick book is well worth the read and to share…”

“The Elysium’s Passage series challenges and excites the reader while taking him into parallel quests for truth with the hero, James. It can be a fast fantasy read or a longer deliberation about what is reality or illusion; veracity or platitude. Take the journey!”

“Mind-blowing statements and speculation (‘…everyone is a non-physical thought form conceived in the Mind of God, preserved for all eternity because God’s thoughts never die…’). Many will find Meyers’ journey up the Mountain intriguing—and possibly even life-changing.” (BLUEINK REVIEW)

“In its effort to grapple with fundamental questions about the meaning of life, it raises questions that have echoed throughout the ages, including about where we come from, where we are going, who we are.”  (CLARION REVIEW)
