TOLD YOU SO!
Intuition is the whisper of the soul.
In this post, I discuss the topic of intuition in a bit more detail than in the previous post two weeks ago on INTUITION AND INSPIRATION: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE. https://digitalbloggers.com/book-reviews/daily-message-from-elysium
Rather than just discussing what intuition is, let’s explore in greater detail how we can become more open to our innate intuition and aware of what might impede our ability to hear this ‘voice’ within.
Again, intuition is a special inward human quality that is sometimes referred to as the ‘knower.’ It’s the inner guidance that prompts us with insight, be it an epiphany, revelation or a reminder to take our keys before locking ourselves out the door. It just knows what it knows and need not be contrived. Though rationalizations and analysis have their place in our lives, they often get in the way of hearing what the inner knowingness already knows.
That’s often our problem; our heart’s intuition knows that it knows, but our ego-mind argues with it because it always thinks it knows better. This causes us to doubt what we earlier felt certain of. For example, you might have found a new relationship that seems perfect for you on the outside, but the voice within says, no, it's not for you. Stay away, run in the other direction… quick, before you get in too deep and it’s too late. Then, for whatever reasons, we doubt this because we don’t wish to go contrary to other’s expectations and desires for us.
Do we ever get into a relationship we later come to regret? Then things can get very messy and unhappy. Then, the voice says: TOLD YOU SO!! Sometimes that’s what it takes to get us to listen to it in the future.
Or perhaps, the voice might say, pursue the relationship. Be confident… don’t discount yourself as unworthy because if that’s how you feel about yourself, the other probably will too. Above all, don’t fear rejection. Put your shoulders back and tell yourself how lucky they are, just as you are for them. It says, go for it… things are going to work out.
However, one thing that’s for sure is that ego is out to sabotage whatever is highest and best for every time, if not a relationship, a million other possibilities.
So, what do we do with this villain-phantom that lurks within? First, we need to come to terms with it, recognizing the ego has a place in our lives when it is subservient to us, its real master. If we are aware of what’s going on, we must make sure it serves us and that we don’t serve it. We don't give our power to it by identifying with it. We don't because it's not us; it's an impostor that knows nothing of intuition. It can never hear 'the voice' or feel the prompt.
Below are a few suggestions that might help us become more aware of the power of our intuition while remaining vigilant over the ego’s wiles.
1. Peace of Mind
It's only when we have peace of mind that we're able to hear our intuition. A restless, fearful mind generally has way too much noise going on inside to hear anything from the inner wisdom. We need only ask ourselves; do we feel more or less peaceful after watching mainstream news or anything else on TV, social media, etc.? Mostly, probably not. So, if we want to hear from our inner wisdom, we need to shut off whatever it is that robs us of experiencing our divine voice.
Again, this can only happen by subordinating the ego-mind. This requires us to intentionally and persistently unify our mind and heart; otherwise, we default to the ego’s directives, thereby allowing it to have its way with us. As stated in a dialogue in Elysium’s Passage: The Ascent;
'Ultimately,' Eli said, 'it will be your choice; the mind won’t surrender its power until it realises it requires the services of the heart. This is why the mind needs to listen to the heart’s inner knowing, which, in turn, serves the mind with its inspired guidance.
2. Relax, don’t over-think it
One common means the ego uses to drown out intuition is being obsessed with over-intellectualising and over-analysing situations. For example, to drive a car, it’s unnecessary to understand the mechanical workings of internal combustion, pistons, cylinders and the gas pedal under our foot, or how the transmission engages with the drive shaft when we shift into first gear/drive.
Likewise, we don’t need to know everything about how our bodies operate to receive intuitive messages telling us what to eat and what it want’s us to do to stay healthy. ‘Exercise anyone?’ So, rather than fretting about all details, we need to learn to relax and trust that what’s highest and best for us will come to us as we remain inwardly and quietly ‘centred.’ There is no reason to fret about what we can’t know or what doesn’t matter.
Jesus spoke of the ‘lilies of the field’ and ‘birds of the air’ that have no cause to worry or fret since nature takes care of them quite nicely. So why not us too? Animals, birds, fish, and insects have instincts that give them whatever impulses they need to survive. Conversely, humans have only intuition which we often ignore, preferring to trust our mind’s reasoning instead. This often causes us to worry rather than to trust our intuition.
4. Meld heart and mind
When the mind is not isolated in its intellectual conceits, fears and self-sufficiency, it can unite with the heart, listening to intuition and acting reasonably. At first, the mind may not be able to figure out how the heart receives the prompts it is given, but if it acts in union with the heart, it will take the heart’s inner wisdom seriously. Then it can, in humility recognise it doesn’t have what information the heart has. If intuition is not overridden by fear, intellectual conceit, or habit; there is a chance the ‘voice’ will be heard and not just the deluded ego-mind self.
The mind needs to defer to the heart by listening to it. The French philosopher-scientist said it best: “the heart has reasons which reason knows not.” If the mind, with the intentional engagement of our free will, defers to the intuitive wisdom of the heart, then the prompts will be heard loud and clear the more our minds learn to trust the heart.
6. High Vibe
As much as possible, remain in a high vibe where the ego’s fears, worry and can’t block out the voice. For more on this, go to the post, Higher Vibe. When our frequency is vibrating high, the voice is much more easily heard. On the contrary, when wallowing in a low frequency, fear-based vibe, all we can hear are depressing moans of defeat. That’s the state of angst we wish to avoid.
Controllers know how to use fear to keep everyone fearful because they know fear is disempowering. Many of the fearful are willing to give away their power to the puppet-masters who say they will keep you safe if you do what they say. Sound familiar?
Gratitude is a very high vibe because it is of love, and love is the most elevated vibe, just as fear is the opposite. If we remain in a state of gratitude as much as possible through the day, we are more likely to hear the voice or feel the prompt because we are in a state of receptivity. Go to the following post on the how-to of gratitude.
If we expect to hear from the voice. we need to have our antenna up so it might speak to us with feelings or mental revelation. Expect intuitive thoughts to come in any number of ways since they relate to synchronicity. Direction and prompt naturally come our way when we live in anticipation, giving no thought or contrivance to how they should come
If we aren’t too fixated on routine, habits and regimens, we might be open to expecting something new. Sometimes it's rewarding to veer off course to where happy serendipitous things can happen. You may not always follow Alice down the rabbit hole, but when you do, who knows who you might meet down there or what you will find? It might even turn out to be a shortcut to where you want to go in life.
Even expecting to see something as prosaic as the number 11:11 or 10:10 through the week. It happens all the time for me, so I take it as an intuitive message from God/the Universe, that it has my back. It seems this is now happening to many these days. We expect it, and so we receive it.
If our attitude is to ‘let go-let God,’ new extraordinary life adventures can ‘pop’ into existence because we will hear our intuitive voice giving us directions that lead us into what we’ve asked for… that which is ‘highest and best’… whatever that might be. This is our true state of grace.
Our lives can experience a great variety of circumstances, opportunities, relationships, abundance, etc., once we become open to what we wish to attract into our lives. Yet we won’t know if we aren’t listening for the voice to tell us how to do it… where to go, what to do, who to call, etc. That’s called putting it out there. Then we wait to hear the voice.
We live in a benevolent universe if we allow it to come to us. Fear will chase it away; love will attract it like a magnet. Our intuition will lead us, not our isolated ego-mind, which, on its own, is always confused and generally taking us away from what our heart wants because it is not whole and defaults to insecurity, falsehoods of fear.
To hear the voice, we first need to know what we want so our intuition can respond to what our heart desires rather than what other people desire for us. It's not about them or what they think we should want. Rather, it’s about being true to ourselves. As stated in Shakespear’s Hamlet:
This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
We must become clear on who we are and what we want. By this, I mean more than our ego wants. It’s about what our Self, our soul, our inner-being wants… which leads to the next point.
11. Know Thyself
It's surprising how few people know who they are, and so can never be fulfilled because they can never know in the depths of their being, what their soul wants. That’s why Socrates said the unexamined life is not worth living.
So, how can intuition serve us if we don’t even know who we are? What’s to serve? We’d have to depend on what advertisers tell us we should want or not want, which generally has everything to do with them and nothing about us.
Our soul is not that shallow to settle for just trinkets, although our mind might since it has no clue who we are or what we want. Anyway, the voice can speak to us in greater clarity if we have more clarity as to who we are and what we want out of life.
12. Get close to nature
By getting close to nature, we get close to what’s genuine. This might include pets, as well as trees, hills, streams and birds… and so much more. We become authentic by submerging our soul into what’s authentic. That’s when the voice can speak to us because it’s what’s real.
13. No expectations
This may seem the opposite of what I said about having expectations. It's good to have reasonable expectations of what you truly want out of life. But what I’m saying here is you can’t force the voice. It will come to you when it’s appropriate. So, trust, don’t contrive. Allow, don’t demand. The voice often comes when you are least expecting it because that’s when your ego-fear expectations are not there to chase it away.
The mind must relax, and the heart’s intuitive voice will speak when the mind waits patiently, without demanding anything. As stated earlier, intuition is of the heart and works with the mind, but it must never be subordinate to the mind.
The mind needs to remain subordinate to the heart, knowing its place as our servant, yet never disengaged. The heart, being the portal to our divine essence, is all about purpose, fulfillment, guidance, joy and happiness. The mind response with its processes to carry out the intuitive longings.
Intuition is like a prayer answered. Without effort or attachment, you put it out there without a lot of thought… just a kind of that sure would be nice if I knew what to say, do or think. And then – Surprise! The answer comes with certainly… we just know… a prompt or voice sometimes speaking in a way we might have least expected.

SUMMARY OF ELYSIUM'S PASSAGE: THE SUMMIT
This is the first in a series of five Elysium narrations regarding a young British philosopher named James Phillips, who finds himself living in an altered state of reality while still remaining on earth.
After experiencing a near-fatal fall while climbing to the summit of a remote mountain in the Andes, James awakens in a new dimension. He soon encounters two mysterious beings who provide him with a very different perspective on the nature of his existence. Over the next year, before his body recovers from the coma, he is challenged to re-examine his understanding of life’s meaning and purpose far beyond anything he previously believed or could believe.
An engaging and sometimes surreal adventure with intimations of impending romance, the narrative explores the most important questions about life, death, reality, and our ultimate destiny.
The Plains of Elysium (Champs-Élysées) was described by Homer, Hesiod, Virgil, and many other poets as the paradisiac afterlife realm reserved for heroes. As the title suggests, this is about a journey through a passage that leads towards Elysium’s exciting realm of adventures.
