I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m entering the retirement zone. Less than ten years from now, I will be eligible to retire with a government pension. I should be elated but honestly, it scares the bejeebers out of me for several reasons:
- Is the pension enough to live on? Emphatically NO!
- Should I get a part-time job? I already work 40+ hours per week!
- Who is going to hire a senior (gulp)?
- Am I too old to start a new career?
Insert - the side-hustle zone. I recently read a book by Chris Guillebeau titled Side Hustle, From Idea to Income in 27 days. Chris explains that we can all have a side hustle while working full time. Sounds like a part-time job to me and I seriously work more than 40 hours per week! The difference between a side-hustle and part-time job is, the part-time job is working for someone else and the side-hustle is something you create, an asset for yourself and something you have full control over! Sounds good to me; so now what?
I jumped online and did research. I spent quite some time on my laptop, as I normally do because I'm a curious person. I focused on the above questions during my search and wanted to make sure there wouldn't be a lot of upfront money I'd have to put out. Time I have, a lot of extra cash I don't!
In his book, Chris Guillebeau asked lots of questions to get me thinking. With these questions in mind and the research I've done, I stumbled upon, literally, a side hustle I can do! Digital Marketing!
My new questions became;
- Is it realistic?
- Can I make some money?
- Am I excited about this industry, my new side hustle?
I'm here to say that after three months, the above questions are all applicable! The best part is that this side hustle I can take with where ever I go! It's all on my old faithful laptop, Slim. If you want to know more, please click here and see what it is I'm doing.
Whether you're into a side hustle of online digital marketing or a side hustle of making herbal soaps, or whatever your passion is, I wish you all the best! Do it!
