It is absolutely critical to prioritise yourself if you want to be successful at any aspect of your life or your business.
Our lives are so very busy. We have list of things to do that are miles long. I have lists for my work, lists for my children, lists for my house.
The one list that is often at risk of receiving the lest amount of focus is the list for me. Without looking after myself I am not giving the best version of myself to any of the aspects of my life - and that undermines my ability to succeed.
Self care is critical but what is it? Self care is not "pampering". Self care is not about doing things to avoid doing the work you need to be doing. Self care is about making careful decision to undertake activities that positively impact your health and wellbeing, and in doing those activities it enables you to do the work that you need to be doing to the best of your ability. It is taking time out to keep you at the top of your game.
Self care looks different for every body. Self care for one could include taking a 4 hour hike through the bush one weekend, while self care for another could include having your nails done in a beauty salon. Self care can also include visiting your GP to have a medical checkup or it cold include taking a family holiday to spend quality time together. The key here, is to carefully assess which activities give you the best outcome to keep you at the top of your game.
By doing this we are setting ourselves up for success. Our minds are clear and focused and we get the work done efficiently and effectively. Good employers recognise the value in supporting employees to undertake their self care activities. If you are self employed - you need to let yourself take the time to do your self care.
