Value #1 Awareness: An Introduction to growth!

This week I came up with this great Idea of writing about values that I believe to be necessary to learn. So by using them as a guide on your journey you will not have to do the same mistakes I did and grow as a person. This week, I start with a Value I believe to be the most important one to start with.

Awareness

Why do I want to talk about Awareness?

You've probably heard of the Pareto Principles often called the 80-20 rule? If not let me describe it quickly. It is said in any aspect of your life that there is a 20% of what you do that produce 80% of the results.

Well, this is exactly what awareness is all about. It is part of that 20% that you should start with!

Awareness is the beginning of all change and great philosophers refer to that. Being aware introduces you to growth.

Myriam Webster definition:

"Knowing and understanding a lot about what is happening in the world or around you."

Being aware of your limits is the first step towards success. The great Chinese philosopher was one of the first to describe the value of being aware.

"The key to growth is the introduction of higher dimensions of consciousness into our awareness." -Lao Tzu

It means that being aware gives you access to different realities in life like meeting different people or seeing different opportunities you would otherwise miss by not paying attention. Paying attention is the key to being aware.

Another great philosopher saw the value of being Aware.

"The ultimate value of life depends upon awareness and the power of contemplation rather than upon mere survival." -Aristotle

Both philosophers, living at different times, were seeing awareness as being one of the most important value in life.

According to successful people, Mastering yourself is true power!
Mastering yourself is true power

Aware Vs Unaware

Being Aware is taking responsibility for your actions, it is knowing that you don't know something, it is being focused, it is having compassion for others, etc.

Being Unaware is blaming others when the responsibility resides in yourself, it is not understanding that your knowledge is limited, it is being distracted, it is not caring for what is happening to others, etc.

To be totally honest, I was unaware not too long ago.

To make a long story short:

I had lost my job, my girlfriend at the time and my place to live. All of that in 1 night!

I was blaming others for what was happening to me and I was over stressed because of bills. I had to go back to my mother's place. But that horrible night thought me something. Something I will always remember!

I was unaware. Unaware that I was being arrogant to people, Unaware that I didn't know how to use my money, that I had all that stress accumulated and unaware that people didn't like to be around me.

The first moment I got left alone with my thoughts that night, I cried and I couldn't stop it. My body had to release all that tension. In fact, I cried so much that I fell asleep out of exhaustion.

I woke up the next morning and I realized that blaming others and whining about what was happening wouldn't get me in a better situation. I became aware! Aware that people don't care if I have all the answers, Aware that I didn't how to invest my money properly, Aware that my health was affected by everything around me, Aware that I was unhappy!

Life doesn't give you what you want, it gives you what you deserve.

My life started shifting in the right direction once I started being aware.

By being aware I could change what had to be changed and look for the solutions to fix my life. I am not saying my life never had downs anymore. But how can you change your life for the better if you aren't aware of what you need to change?

I improved my health as I started understanding what caused my stress!

I improved my wealth as I understood what I was spending my money on!

I improved my relationships by listening and caring for others instead of trying to teach them lessons!

I improved my happiness by knowing that I don't have control over anyone but myself!

You can't live happy if you don't try to improve yourself every day. Even today I still find things to work on.

What is the biggest benefit to being more Aware?

Isn't it relevant that awareness gives you more reaction time to pick the best possible scenario for yourself? Awareness is going to help you notice things that might be distracting you or opportunities that you would miss otherwise!

It is about being Aware of opportunities that surround you!

Everybody wants to be aware but very few decide to stop being distracted.

Focus on yourself and be aware of the change that occurs when you put in the effort to achieve something. Be willing to put in the work it is not something that happens overnight, but a little change here and there will make a difference in 6 months.

Realize what's important now, by suppressing all the distractions.

Don't expect to hear what you want to hear, but what you need to hear, only that can make you grow!

I am not saying don't ever have fun again... I am actually saying if you want success, focus on it and do whatever it takes to get there and don't get distracted.

In the end, it is your life... if you don't like it that way, act and change it! The more you are aware of what you need to improve the faster your growth will be. Pay attention to opportunities and stay focused! Don't get distracted by the shiny stuff they are mostly just time sinks.
