Why You Need To Be Your Own Competition

I read a quote yesterday,

"an empty stomach, empty pockets and a broken heart, can teach the greatest lessons".

To me, this speaks volumes of truth.

We often find it very hard to see the light when we're at rock bottom, climbing out of that pit often seems impossible and sometimes we have no idea how to do that.

But, perspective and belief play a huge role and that same situation that has us down in the depths, all that emotion that we feel the place we go to in our heads when we are faced with a time of darkness is also what's going to help you succeed.

Is it possible? , does failing at life really give us an advantage. Yes! , absolutely, if we are simply aware of our thoughts and BELIEVE that we will come out of this better for it, having grown through it.

You see those 'failures', are lessons, some are harder to see and understand than others, but all teach us something. It's when we are at our lowest that we give ourselves time to think and grow. too often when we are out our best we relax, taking in that time of feeling so great but we make mistakes and get lazy.

I'm not saying here that we should find a middle ground or always be in a situation that causes some sort of pain for us to learn from. just simply that when we are at our best, we should remember one thing "I am my greatest competition".

What have you done today that makes you or your business better than yesterday? the only person you need to beat is you, every day will be your best day.

This lesson has come best to me recently since I have been back in the gym working out after breaking my femur in February. I haven't been in a gym in 3 years while I was living in Thailand but before that, it was a huge part of my life, workout out 6 days a week for almost 3 years.

My friends who I used to workout out with have of course surpassed me hugely in that 3-year gap and now im coming back with a major disadvantage in my still healing leg.

If I wanted to get back to where I was 3 years ago I had to become my own competition, pushing myself harder and harder. the only person I need to beat is me.

Since I took that mindset I've now been working out again for 4 months, and I am so happy to say that I am well within 10% of my previous Personal best lifts, after ONLY 4 months, there is a lot I am doing to get there, Diet plays a huge role but it's the mindset that really makes it.

Dedication, Determination and Focus.

I am my greatest competitor, it doesn't matter what others are doing. I come in every day and beat my yesterday.

Focus, Focus, Focus
