STAPLES FOR SALAD MAKING: π₯ π₯ π₯
FRESH PRODUCE π₯ π₯ π
Below is a list of fresh produce that no doubt gets picked up on my weekly grocery run. They are common American ingredients, however, almost all can be found in your wonderful country I am assuming. If not, substitute with fresh produce that suits your culture. If fresh is not an option, then hit up the frozen section where you are able to find low-cost veggies that you can sauté, boil, bake or grill- Just as good
-Matchstick carrots: $2 a bag / whole carrots: .89¢ a bag
-Cucumber: .80¢ or hot house: $1.50
-Mini sweet peppers: $3.99 / 8oz bag
-Avocado: $1 each
-Form of lettuce, red tip $1.99/head or Romaine: $2.99/ 3 heads, or spinach: $3.79/bag
-Fresh lime or lemon: 4/$1
-Red onion: $1.69/lb.
-Jalapeno: .30¢ per

βMake it a point to take the time to wash your produce to reduce chemical digestion as well as other debris.
PROTEIN π₯© π π€
Again, below are sources of protein that are staples in my household. I would venture to say all are available in your country however costs may vary. Source out the most economical and appealing while keeping with the thought of LEAN proteins which means they contain less fat, if you are able to afford it. Eggs and beans are other fantastic sources!!!!!
-Canned tuna (in olive oil is fantastic): $1 to $2.50
-Chicken breast 4 to 6 oz.: Organic $7.49/lb. or not $12.99/40oz bag frozen (often grocery stores have monthly sales where you can buy Organic for less- stock up the freezer)
-Fish filet: market or frozen is not that bad and tends to be more economical
-Ground turkey $4.99 breast $6.49
-Lean beef: $3.79/lb.
CARBOHYDRATES π
Carbohydrates should be eaten relative to your personal daily caloric intake. The below are extremely economical sources and available in many countries. You can mix it up a bit by substituting with other whole grains, such as quinoa, millet, bulgur or wild rice. Beans, lentils and potatoes are superior food sources that you can also incorporate into your diet.
-Sweet potatoes: $1.29/lb.
-White rice: $1.29/lb. bag
Be on the lookout over the next two weeks for recipes, grocery lists and suggestions for Yumi bowls of freshness!!! Your belly and your family will thank you; and I believe your spirit will too. π§βοΈ
