How important do you think meditation is on a daily basis? I’m not talking about sitting all day making the OHMMMM sound and trying to be in this “awakened” state. I’m talking about taking 10-15 minutes before you get out of bed in the morning and/or before going to bed at night. Do you ever quiet down your mind or are you a believer that thinking is the only way to be?
For a long time, I had immense troubles with meditating. Even if I wanted to, just sitting still for a few minutes listening to a guided meditation was like torture to me!!! I gave my brain so much power that I just couldn’t let go of my thoughts. Because they are the most important thing, right?
So I wondered: What is the brain really and why do I have so many bad thoughts all the time? The bad and hurtful and just mean thoughts that popped into my head about myself outweighed the nice thoughts by far! I’m too fat, too dumb, too ugly, totally unlovely and the list goes on and on and on… I didn’t even realize that there are so many things that could be wrong with me. But then I realized that probably 80% of the statements I was telling myself were false. And that’s when meditation got a certain appeal, because if the thoughts that I'm thinking about myself are untrue, I no longer need to believe them and so how can I shut my mind up??? I figured I really need to give meditation a try.
My friends and I therefore decided about three years ago, that we will make meditation our mission and we are meeting every two to three weeks to meditate. We take turns preparing for our mediations together to create an empowering atmosphere. About two years ago I made my own mediation recording, as I always thought that people talk too much when they guide through meditations. Please give me any feedback you might have or tell me how you like to meditate… do you just sit still or do you listen to music, do you walk in the woods or meditate while doing the dishes, or do you think mediation is one of those new-age things… it’s all a possibility!
