Who are baby boomers what age group ?

Who are baby boomers what age group is a very good question or is it two questions and I will answer in this blog.

Baby boomers are the group of people who were born during the post World War II baby boom and were born between the years 1946 and 1964 with a current age range of 53 to 71 years of age.

I am proud to say that I am a baby boomer as I was born in 1959 in the younger end of the age range.

Teenage Years In The 1970s

My teenage years were in the 1970s and I really enjoyed those times leaving school at 16 in 1975 and starting work in the print trade as a Compositor in the same year.

There was lots of work to be had and you could switch jobs with relative ease, although I took an apprenticeship and completed early at 3.5 years due to my own hard work and good support.

Amazingly enough that is over 40 years ago now and yet it seems as if it were yesterday – I don't now where those years went, but they certainly went quickly that is for sure.

Baby Boomers Fall Into Two Groups !

Back to baby boomers who as I see it fall into two distinct groups: those who have retired and those who are still working and retirement may not necessarily be at a particular age, it can be due to circumstances such as financial or health and many other reasons too.

Now if you are a baby boomer who has retired I am hoping that you have planned well and you pension pot is providing all the finances you require to live the life you deserve, but I would guess that the vast majority of retirees do not fall into that category and money is tight.

If you fall into the second group and are working towards your retirement, again I hope that you have done your planning and have invested well in some sort of pension plan, but again facts and figures show that this is not the case and you can expect quite a reduction in cash flow when you do actually retire.

Increasing Your Cash Flow !

So what can you do to address this problem and increase your cash flow, a bit of a cheesy term I know, and make your life much more comfortable?

Well there are a number of strategies for those who are still working, including working past your retirement age, topping up your pension with additional voluntary contributions, starting your own business, investing in property and much more.

Baby boomers are much sought after in the world of work due to their vast life and work experience and their reliability, although they are not paid what they are worth.

For those who have retired, you can come out of retirement and choose and follow any of the strategies above.

I Have Paid Into Several Pension Schemes !

Over my own lifetime I have paid into several pension schemes and when they are combined they will only provide around one third of my current salary as a pension.

This is just not enough for me to live the comfortable lifestyle and enable me to travel the world as I would like to do, so I had to go down a different route of affiliate marketing which involves creating my own online business and learning many new skills to make this a success.

Still Working Full Time And Looking To Make My Escape !

I am also still working full time in teaching at a prison in the north of England. It is rewarding to help others learn, though the environment is not the best and I suppose I am working toward escaping from prison which has a nice ring to it.
