Lions Pound RCB

The Gujarat Lions added insult to the Royal Challengers Bangalore injuries with a seven-wicket pounding having more than six overs to spare in the 31st match of the 2017 Indian Premier League season at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore.

Both teams needed a victory to remain in contention for the top four team playoff.

RCB after the crushing defeat at the hands of KKR had their next match against The Sunrisers Hyderabad abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain.

Gujarat skipper Suresh  Raina won the toss and immediately inserted the home team to bat. RCB started cautiously but to no avail in over number four captain, Virat Kohli pulled a rank long hop directly into the hands of Adam Finch for 10 with the score on 22.

Two balls later the real destruction started big hitting Chris Gayle edged the first ball from Andrew Tye to Dinesh Karthik behind the stumps. The very next delivery also a peach and all Tim Head could manage was a thick edge which was smartly taken by Raina in the slips. Now at 22/3 RCB were reeling once again.

AB de Villiers and Kedar Jadhav attempted to resuscitate the innings and were being relatively successful. Until Jadhav who had been had been batting very well and by the ninth over had cracked four boundaries and one six in an 18 ball 31 then tried to late cut a quick flat and straight delivery from Ravindra Jadeja and was bowled.

Disaster struck quickly in the next over extinguishing the hopes of a defendable

RCB total when de Villiers was run out for five.

With the to order decimated Pawan Negi added 32 from 19 with three fours and two sixes and Aniket Choudhary 15 enabling RCB to accumulate a woefully inadequate 134.

Tye was the main cause of the collapse with 3/12 from four overs and Jadeja chipped in with 2/ 28 Basil Thampi, Ankit Soni and James Faulkner grabbed one wicket each.

Ishan Kishan struck a few lusty blows before being trapped in front by Samuel Badree.  Brendon McCullum also fell victim to Badree caught by de Villiers.

Then Adam Finch took over. The burly Australian right-hander was devastating treating all bowlers with disdain as he bludgeoned six maximums and five boundaries in a breathtaking 72 from only 34 balls in 92 run partnership with his skipper in eight overs.

When he departed at the start of over number 13 only twenty more runs were needed. Raina was left not out on 34 from thirty balls including four boundaries and one six and the Lions completed the annihilation in 13.5 overs.
