Sick of goals
I hate goals.
The only goal I can think of is one in football.
For me, playing football is a memory of mud, rain and bruises. Still, I had a good time and it toughened me up for later knocks in life, when I was asked to actually set goals. At work, in family and personally, everybody seemed to have goals, except me.
Education and career goals.
My only goal at school was to get out of school. College was supposed to be a stepping stone to what I wanted to do, to become an international Interior Designer to the world of the mega rich and connected people.
My dream, and it was a dream, dried up days into my first job in London. Before computers reached the design world we draw on paper that would be best suited to putting cakes on for baking.
I drew office and toilet floor plans everyday. Then scraped off the ink with a razor blade and drew it in a different place a few millimetres from the previous design.
Now I have set some goals because my life actually worsened(is that a word?), so here are my goals..
1. Wake up early.
2. Eat less.
3. Exercise more.
There, that should do it. After all that is what most ads I see on the internet are talking about. If I did those three things I would be happier.
The trouble with what I've done is that I haven't dug deep enough. Of course you knew this before I mentioned it.
What is the most useful goal. One that is ingrained in our soul. I read that we need to envision our goals, then work to make them reality
I'm looking for a dramatic goal. That is the problem. Climb Mount Everest. Lose half my body weight in 12 months. It has to be dramatic or i'm not interested.
Here are the goals I thought I had decided by myself but never wrote down.
Never get into debt.
Be financially independent by age 25.
Married with 2 kids by 30.
Have 3 houses in 3 different countries and my own successful business by 35.
Did any of these things actually happen?
So now I reluctantly admit that I need to write down my goals and stick them on the wall and put target dates next to each one. Just completely boring but true.
