JULY'S DAILY MESSAGE POSTS FROM THE PASSAGE

These two giants of science and literature are stating a very obvious, but all too often ignored truth.

Isn't it interesting, but perhaps not too surprising, that the greatest writer and scientist in recent history, Leo Tolstoy and Albert Einstein both said, essentially, the same thing. Long before them, thousands of years ago in Egypt, the Hermetic Code stated the simple, but profound words: AS WITHIN, SO WITHOUT.

And so it is with our thoughts, what we are within determines the thoughts we think and the words we speak. If we care to change the expression of what we are without, we must first change the content of what we are within, personally, socially, and globally.

In the words of Jesus, as represented in Matthew 15:11, "Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man."

Of course, it also works the other way that what good comes out of the mouth indicates what good might be within.

If we wish to make the world a better place, we must begin with what good is within. If its anger, stupidity and vengeance, we will continue to be plagued with war. If it is love, goodness and wisdom we will bring the Kingdom of God to earth. Sadly, for most of history, we have opted for evil but we can change that... beginning with ourselves.

Hope everyone is having a great summer... keep thinking and expressing your great thoughts

This general idea by Rhonda Byrne, producer of THE SECRET video sensation, has been stated in many ways. For example, it is also written in the book of Proverbs: "As a man thinketh, so is he"

In A Course of Miracles, we read: "Only your thoughts can hurt you."

And, as noted in the quote below from A Course of Love, we need to be aware of the deceptive nature of our ego-mind. (The part of our psyche that separates itself from our heart's deeper wisdom.)

“The purpose of your mind is extension. Thus, the upside-down perception that causes you to protect your private thoughts and see them as the seat of yourself calls for the exact opposite of extension. This is the only true source of conflict. And, yet again, your perception of your thoughts as yourself is his closest answer to the truth that you were able, in your limited view of yourself, to come up with.

There is a part of you that knows that you have higher thoughts and knows that these higher thoughts are yourself. Rather than discriminating between higher and lower thoughts, you have aggrandized all your thoughts and given them an identity we have called the ego. Without dislodging your belief in your ego as yourself you will never realize your true identity.”  A Course of Love, p189

I agree, our true identity is our divine Self, which is why the ancients implored us to KNOW THYSELF. (The ELYSIUM'S PASSAGE novel series explores this theme thoroughly.)

What yield of harvest do we wish for in our life? One of my favorite verses in the Proverbs is; "Guard your heart more than any treasurer, for it is the source of all life." In other words, be vigilant where you let your mind go.

What thoughts we allow and dwell upon in our heart (soul), will be yielded in life, for better or worse. We need to be aware that we can, as it says in A Course of Miracles, "choose again."  In as much as you are able, think thoughts of gratitude, appreciation and all things that make you happy. In doing so, you will find your thoughts can bring you a harvest of great happiness.

But with politics now mired down in so much polarized self-righteous hate these days, it's easy to get drawn down into the fray, yielding us a harvest of much egoic unhappiness. This is a challenge to our sense of well-being, but we can overcome our fear and anger by asking whether we would rather be 'right' or be 'happy.'

If we choose 'happy,' we must think happy thoughts. If this sound Pollyanna, maybe it is, but it's not impossible. With mental discipline and practice, and, I might I say, the grace of God, happy thoughts will make us a happier people. Try it! It's worth it.

To your happiness...

I never thought of aging in quite the same way that David Bowie did, although he didn't go too far down the aging path. But from what I observe, I think it’s true that most mellow with age... not that I would know this personally. However, visiting my mother in her senior's home a couple of times each week over the last four years have been an interesting experience. One of the big benefits is that it always makes me feel like a kid hanging with the cane and walker set.

I sometimes wonder what these (mostly) sweet ladies and gents were like in years gone by when career, and worldly ambitions still mattered to them. That's gone now, along with most everything else, including, sadly, family. But what remains is a desire to connect, to make new friends, even if they might be old and decrepit like them. Perhaps this is what makes them most charming in what Bowie calls an extraordinary process.

There is a profound truth in this statement by English poet John Keats. Obviosly it’s important we don't stagnate in our thinking and remain open to new and better ideas about everything. However, I believe our minds should be more than just a thoroughfare for whatever ideas might be floating around.

For example, how much of what the media projects onto us day after day makes us feel better? It takes much discipline not to be drawn into all the fear and despair when it becomes so mesmerizing. I agree we should be open to new ideas, but we need to be vigilant when discriminating which thoughts are worth holding on to and which should be avoided and discarded as quickly as possible. Thoughts can lift us up or bring us down before we see them coming.

As the ancient Greek philosopher Epictetus stated: You become what you give your attention to... if you yourself don't choose what to give you thoughts and images to expose yourself to, someone else will, and their motives may not be the highest.

So, yes, let your mind be a thoroughfare for ideas, but don't let just any idea or image park itself where you don't want it. For one thing, It might get in the way of a much better, positive idea. Rather, focus on to ideas that come your way that will build and not bring you down.

I trust you will find some of the quotes in these Daily Message from the Passage posts to be an edifying thoroughfare of wisdom from some of the world's greatest minds.

This post is from Elysium's Passage: The Summit. James, the protagonist has recently entered into an alternate reality as a result of falling down a mountain chasm in the Andes. He doesn't realize it yet, but is body is in a coma in London. Eli, who is a spirit from Elysium (place of the departed), tries to explain to him there is more to him than his body, and in fact, he is not even in his earthly body.

Of couse James doesn't believe any of this until confronted with his new reality. Eli tries to explain that the universe is multi-dimensional and the material expression is but an extension of a more subtle energy, that being of the Source (God). This is just the beginning of James trying to reconcile his materialist beliefs with what he is now experiencing. It tough; he now has to unlearn most of what he thought he knew as a philosopher before he can begin to learn the truth about life, and most importantly... himself.

OVERVIEW OF THE ELYSIUM'S PASSAGE SERIES

undefined

The ELYSIUM'S PASSAGE series involves five novel narrations regarding a young British philosopher named James Phillips who finds himself living in an altered state of reality while still remaining on earth.

After experiencing a near fatal fall while climbing to the summit of a remote mountain in the Andes, James awakens in a new dimension. He soon encounters two mysterious beings who provide him with a very different perspective on the nature of his existence. Over the next year, before his body recovers from the coma, he is challenged to re-examine his understanding about life’s meaning and purpose far beyond anything he previously believed, or could believe.

An engaging and sometime surreal adventure with intimations of impending romance, the narrative explores the most important questions about life, death, reality and our ultimate destiny.

The Plains of Elysium (Champs-Élysées) was described by Homer, Hesiod, Virgil and many other poets as the paradisiac afterlife realm reserved for heroes. As the title suggests, this is about a journey through a passage that leads towards Elysium’s exciting realm of existence.

The following comments are among the first Amazon reviews of Elysium’s Passage: The Summit. All are Five Stars! Others reader reviews are included below, along with excerpts from two professional reviews. To read full reviews, go to READER REVIEWS on www.elysiumspassage.com

"A delightful mix of fantasy, reality, conjecture and humour; Mr. Meyers draws the reader into the story with a gentle narrative that captures imagination, leaving one anxious to get to the next page drawing you into his exceptional world.”

"Quietly, gently, and without imposition, the Author unfolds the pages, creating an intricate, interlocking bridge spanning the chasm between mind and heart. Renewing, refreshing, restoring. In my bereavement, it was vigil and light…"

“Excellently written with an exceedingly deep understanding of this world and the next. The characters are very well written and engaging that takes the reader on both a philosophical and spiritual journey, a journey that at times is both disquieting and tranquil. James, a British Philosopher can be irreverent and caustic, traits that should have left me cringing, but instead made me laugh out loud. Elysium’s Passage is a fun, enlightening and remarkable book.”

“This is a masterful fantasy, becoming a real possibility, as the reader is drawn into the story. The Summit leaves you anxious for the next book in the series, yet also leaves you totally satisfied with the world you have just visited. Genius! An exciting, yet calming, experience that is not to be missed."

"There was hardly a page on which I did not find at least one sentence worthy of hi-lighting for future reference. In addition, I thoroughly enjoyed the main character, James, whose personality and passionate verbal exchanges with the other characters, kept me coming back for more. I am reading the book for a second time while I wait for the next one in this series to be made available."

“N.G. Meyers has clearly put a great deal of research and thought into what the afterlife may look like and I like his perspective. It’s an altogether welcoming and exciting vision. The book gives one a great deal to think about and a reassuring confidence that the end of our lives is truly the beginning of life in the next. I highly recommend it."

"I am really enjoying your book, it’s fantastic! It is so incredible and diversified that I can’t really explain it other people, so what I say is just read this book. Thank you so much for the blessings that you’ve given the world!"

“The humour interjected into a serious discussion makes me laugh out loud. Totally unexpected....l may be in the presence of at least a master, if not a genius. A fair ride into reality... seeking that which is unseen, yet absolutely real.”

“An engaging story of adventure embracing man's deepest desire to search for meaning and purpose, N.G. Meyers takes the reader on an adventurous thought provoking journey. This book has substance. It is a perfect blend of adventure and fantasy combined with spiritual philosophy. It ignited my imagination. The author magically weaves a good story laced with wit and humor together with deep philosophical wisdom. This book has it all!”

“An evolution in thought is triggered by many fresh philosophical themes which could inspire readers to re-think their reality and former ideologies that have dictated their lives… the author fires readers’ imaginations to view what could be possible when spirit vacates the body.”

“This is the book spiritual seekers have been waiting for. For me, it granted a great read as well as increased inspiration to live every day with a heightened sense of purpose. I highly recommend it.

“The Summit is capable of hooking readers and luring them to search for Book 2 to discover more about Dr. Philip’s surreal trek into the mysterious unknown universe. This thick book is well worth the read and to share…”

“The Elysium’s Passage series challenges and excites the reader while taking him into parallel quests for truth with the hero, James. It can be a fast fantasy read or a longer deliberation about what is reality or illusion; veracity or platitude. Take the journey!”

“Mind-blowing statements and speculation (‘…everyone is a non-physical thought form conceived in the Mind of God, preserved for all eternity because God’s thoughts never die…’). Many will find Meyers’ journey up the Mountain intriguing—and possibly even life-changing.” (BLUEINK REVIEW)

“In its effort to grapple with fundamental questions about the meaning of life, it raises questions that have echoed throughout the ages, including about where we come from, where we are going, who we are.”  (CLARION REVIEW)
