Finding the girl of my dreams
When I found her she was not she.
She didn't like me.
Was rude and swore.
The golden hair was not golden anymore.
The perfect body was just a body.
The perfect person I had imagined had the spell of perfection vanish.
My heart kick started into reality mode. The air smelt different. I began to realise the advice from my parents was valid. My friends crazy habits that annoyed me were now fun. I got my life back.
Hours, days, months spent fantasising about a girl I had barely spoken to.
What was that about.
I created an entire world of events that never took place. I even dreamt sometimes and woke to find the shock of reality and the pure escape of dreams and fantasy.
I think it's called infatuation or limerence.
What a crazy time that stuff can give you. But like Tom Cruise in Rain Man, could I take advantage of the powerful effect of this part of my brain to constructive rather than destructive use?
Firstly, let's replace the girl, who has now become a woman, with a task I am doing. Let's say I want to decorate my bedroom. I go find a magazine or website that has a picture of a room I like, no I mean really like. In fact I like it so much it's embarrassing. I don't want anyone to know. I start to look for the products or items in the picture. I read, I call up shops or go to DIY places to get tips. In my spare moments I scanned shops or websites for bargains just in case they might have the things I want. And now I want it. The entire image and fantasy I create is out of this world. My focus is away from the other important things in life.
I think you get the picture. It's not that hard to do. Even finding the money to get this stuff magically appears. The desire and thrust are amazing.
And now the reality check.
Before you completely lose your mind in this, grab a trusted friend or family member and ask them what they think. If you can connect fantasy to reality you have completed an achievement mind circle(just made that up).
Now go teach that to someone else.
And what happened to the girl? She's still floating around in fantasy world.
