But “Who is Sergeï?” you might ask. Well, let me tell you a little bit about myself…
My friends call me “Ice Man” and funny as it may be, this nickname just kind of stuck.
But, let’s begin from square one shall we
Born in Belgium, but after my parent’s divorce, raised in Ukraine, I grew up with my mother and grandparents in a small village south of Dnepropetrovsk.
It was 1972. I was around 9 years old at the time. Born of two dissimilar cultures, and being the fruit of two lives strictly opposed to one another, I had grown up from a young age in an era where the cold war, since the early 60’s, was in its first eruption, and in an empire called back then, the USSR.
Since the day I was born until my departure with my mother, there from Belgium, I had lived in the companionship of horses, and during the first part of my childhood, I had grown up in a small apartment over the stable where my father worked as a Racehorse trainer.
Therefore I started to ride horses at the tender age of 3, having that in my blood.
I was a child with many dreams, one of them was travel the world and to be different than anyone else, to live a life on my own terms and through many experiences.
The child becomes a man
At age 15, I left home and I had the opportunity to travel numerous times in various places as a sportsman in horse competitions.
I went and performed from city to city, state to state, and then country to country where I encountered different ways of living. I believed I had a beautiful job as a sportsman but no free time, almost none to say the least, as I worked 80 long hours a week and was on a strict diet.
I was attracted by the beauty of all that I saw as it was a first for me, I was hooked and youth’s call for life became much stronger, that it felt almost like an urge. I wanted to take part in real life, and not merely being an observer from one side of the world only.
But the USSR, my mother land, had another plan in store for me…Military service duty, they called me in and pushed my dreams away, and I found himself assigned in a submarine, for 3 long years.
After several years
A person’s life has usually a small amount of uncertainty as to what to do in life, but I however, had broken that mold, and decided that it was to time for me to see the world with my own eyes.
One would have thought that it was daring or quite impossible, being a Soviet citizen, but it didn’t matter how. In my mind, it had to happen somehow.
So, I defected going on my way to a competition, and like life has a weird sense of humor, The “Iron Curtain” in Berlin came down only 1 week after my risky defection to the West and in doing so, the Soviet Union collapsed, to my benefit. Nobody was even looking for me anymore.
It was such chaos over there!
I, Sergei, was a forgotten ex-Soviet citizen in a foreign country. It was a miracle…No, simply my destiny and my deepest desire as a child, I always believed and here it finally was.
I had always been the “Black Sheep” of the family, yet it was justified, despite all the trouble!!!
Throughout my life, my way of facing situations with practically no fear of what would happen had earned me the nickname of “Ice Man”.
Falling hard
After many years of going from one job to the other, being on a roller coaster, with the ups and downs of life, and living in different countries by working into all kinds of field, I realized that there was more to life than this 9 to 5 Rat race as people call it.
I wanted more out of my existence, so I sought a way out of the routine, and I craved to be financially free. I educated myself through books, and I really liked the story of “The Alchemist” as it made me think even harder to my possibilities.
But in 2013, the security company I worked for closed its doors and I found myself at the unemployment office for a complete year. It was a real tough time and such an eye opener for me, as I only ate pasta and rice for over 1 year, and I couldn’t pay my bills.
My girlfriend at the time left me in my predicament, expecting from me some miracle, and to make things worse…No one else that I knew helped me.
And to add to my unpleasant situation, I found out that all of my family in the East and most of it in the West was deceased, and that the ones that still lived on the Western part didn’t want anything to do with me. For them, I was a stranger from a foreign land, being gone for more than 40 years.
I found myself even more alone!!!
Do you feel alone? Well don’t, because you are not.
Life had something better in store
But I didn’t want to give up, as I have a strong character of survival.
A fervent believer in the Law of Attraction for many years, I am also an avid reader and audio booker.
One day, a friend gave me a book to read, the book was called “The 4-Hour Workweek” by Tim Ferriss, and it was a revelation for me, I had found my life’s path.
After that, I made a drastic decision for my life and took a risk as I listened and followed my subconscious’ intuitive advices. Everyone around me thought that I was crazy to leave at age 50 for another country where I knew no one, where I didn’t speak the language and where I had no job.
But I believed I could!
