WHAT IS YOUR STORY IN 2017?

The year 2017 is now counting down with a mere few days left before its final departure to clear the atmosphere for 2018’s safe arrival!!! 2017 will be one of the most eventful years in history. Why? It was the most eventful year on all fronts. Starting from January, when Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States to December when he recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. There hasn’t been a dull moment throughout the entire year. Shortly after the inauguration, the country witnessed historic protests and marches all across the country even around the world.

“After every dark night, there is a brighter day.
As Tony Robbins says, bad times and problems call us to a higher level.
They help us grow into a better and stronger person.
Robin Williams also puts it at a point blank that “we will have bad times,
but they will always wake you up to the stuff you weren’t paying attention to”.

The year was filled with the fall and rise of many individuals and corporations as #Me Too Movement grew. Powerful men within almost every spectrum were affected; the media, politics, entertainment (Holly Wood), Wall Street etc., Many lost their coveted careers, reputations, and legacies they spent years building. The year 2017, has been a year of political turmoil, embarrassment, and shame for so many people as all kinds of allegations, from money laundering, lying, sexual harassments and even shoplifting came to light. Oh! So much to remember guys!

As I think about all these powerful individuals and the allegations leveled against them, I remember what the scripture says. “Let him that thinks he stands to take heed lest he falls.” (1 Corinthians 10:12). The Bible also warns, “Beware your sins shall find you out.... and that there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed.”(Luke 12:2). What’s your story in 2017?

To many, the year 2017 is considered a year of heartbreaks in so many ways.  The onslaught of untimely deaths, hurricanes, storms, flooding and wide fires that swept the country illustrate the devastation the year placed in numerous hearts. Not to mention, hundreds of families displaced as new vetting measures were added to counteract the year of terrorists’ attacks that continued regardless, both within and outside the country. How can we forget the historic flooding in Southeast Texas, or the deadly wildfire in California, the shootings in Las Vegas, and most recently, the Hurricane in Puerto Rico, which people are still enduring the aftermath?

Do you remember the Solar Eclipse? The day everyone in the country was gazing up at the sky in wonder, many who experienced it feared that the world is coming to an end, it was amazing! What of the Nationalists protests in Virginia? I can’t name them all.

As you noticed, I am mentioning all this as an example of how tragic and heartbreaking this year has been to many. While in contrast, it has also been one of the best years for some people. It has been a year of growth, fulfilled dreams, promotions, great achievements, personal improvement, and self-discovery. What’s your story in 2017?

It has been a year of economic relief for many; the stock market is at a record high for many months and job growth still in good shape. You can help me add to the list of good and bad memories of 2017 as we prepare to bid it goodbye and welcome 2018 with open arms and open hearts! What is your story in 2017? What will you remember the most about it as we get ready for the New Year?

"Your purpose explains what you are doing with your life.

Your vision explains how you are living your purpose.

Your goals enable you to realize your vision." Bob Proctor.

Remember, in every rose lies the thorns meaning in every crisis there is an opportunity; a lesson to be learned, or a growth to be experienced. Did all the happenings of 2017 teach you any lesson? Bad things don’t have to happen to you for the lesson to be learned whether it relates to pain, suffering, loss, humiliation, and etc. It is often better and cheaper to learn from the experiences of others because they have paid the price for the lesson to be learned. All you need to learn is how not to enter the same kind of trap.

For instance, anyone should be able to learn from the embarrassment, loss of reputation, position, and legacy of men seated in great positions like Harvey Weinstein, Bill O’Reilly, Senator Franklin, Roy Moore, and several others are facing. Watching their enviable career end in such a way they never envisioned should be a forewarning everyone to live a life of transparency and respect. Learning from them will guide any man or woman to apply wisdom and self-control in his/her relationships or personal life. In closing, what’s your story for 2017? Whatever it is, just remain grateful and hopeful that you’re alive and well!
