What I Tell My Daughter About International Women's Day

I'm a proud mum of two girls so in a way I do celebrate International Women's Day. At the end of the day, a lot of progress has been made and more people talk about equality. I celebrate the women that have committed and work every day to make sure that we all live in a fair playfield. I also recognize that as more people discuss equal pay some companies are making changes to how women are remunerated. I recognize how women and our decisions are more respected. Yet...

a lot more has to be done.

So today I tell my daughter...

The story when we started celebrating this day and the reason behind it.

About the women that have set an example to follow.

That we need to celebrate women but also recognize our responsibility to keep pushing the boundaries until we all have a real equal living playfield.

That as women we want to keep working in a more intelligent way to make sure that we are not forced into becoming the 'Superwomen' that we are 'meant' to be.

That you do lean in or out, you make decisions all the time based on what is important to you.

That she can break the glass ceiling if she chooses to do so or that she has an opportunity to create her own glass ceiling.

Opportunities have changed, technology keeps changing our lifestyles and I can only imagine how it will look like in another 20 years. However,...

She has a choice today and every other day to make decisions that will take her to achieve all her dreams and goals.

She also has the tools through technology to make things easier to find more balance.

She has her family and friends to give her strength when things go wrong because things will go wrong.

She has the strength to create a plan that will take her to achieve her dreams.

She has more opportunities that other women before her have opened up.

So, I tell her, let's celebrate International Women's Day!

I will share more about the story and talk about the women that has set an example to follow.

Today, I tell her to let's keep working in a more intelligent way so that not only we can break the glass ceiling but create our own ceiling in real equal terms.

Love,

Mum
